Near black. Medium head. Primarily a chocolatey nose. On the palate, this is actually on the sweeter side, without robust bitterness despite a) the stated IBU count and b) being a Pelican beer. Still, there's some bitterness and it has chocolatey complexity, with a light toffee accent.

12 oz. 2021 can is 7.5% ABV and 65 IBUs. Aroma is floral, dark bread, caramel, toasted marshmallow, coffee. Pours brown with amber highlights and a one+ finger beige head with excellent retention. Taste has a sweet roasty malt character backed by a moderate to high pithy bitterness that lingers on the palate. Finishes dry.

From a bomber. Pours a clear dark cola brown with a tan head. Aromas of leather and pine. Flavors are bitter roast. Pretty decent for the style.

Pours a black from a bottle with a tan head, medium lacing. Roasty coffee and cacao nib aroma blends with a light pine. Similar flavor, a bit of a citrus. Good beer.

On Tap at Growler Guys, Meridian Clear very dark brown with redish edges. Thin light tan head and even sheets of lacing. Lots of roasted malts and fairly biter. Not particularly obnoxious but balanced and smooth for the black IPA. The hop flavors are not particularly fresh west coast style, but work well with the dark malts. Solid bitter dark ale.

12 oz bottle poured. Pours black with a ton of swirl tan head and lace. I planned on pairing this with the movie with the same name, but I don’t watch movies anymore. Big toasty malt aroma and flavor. Smokey hint in the finish. Mild vanilla. Nice winter beer here.

Bottle. Dark brown color with about a finger of tan head, light bits of webby lacing. The nose is roast and light chocolate, sweet overall, and hints of pine. Taste is a little bitter, but moderate roast and hops. More floral than pine. Hints of chalkiness... Not bad though. Overall enjoyable CDA.
