US Export - re-imported to the UK by me! Grrrrrr - sort it out Meantime! Very dark brown beer. Smooth and almost silky. Doesn’t feel like aged malts like some Scotch ales. Lots of rich yet light tasting malt. Some chocolate. Not bitter or over dry. A very pleasant malty beer. Some cherry in the undertone.

(Cask, by gravity, at White Horse, Parson’s Green, London, 28 Nov 2009) Dark reddish brown colour with frothy, beige head. Malty nose with notes of dried fruit and dark bread. Malty taste with dark fruit, prunes, raisins, caramel and toasted, bready malt. Slightly bittersweet finish. Full body, rounded mouthfeel. Lovely balance with focus on the maltier side. Very nice beer.

Bottle from Monument in Concord. In Marcus’ Gordon thistle glass. Very dark, black, opaque with a large creamy beige head. Dark rich aromas of malt, treacle, and perhaps peat. Full bodied with mild carbonation. Dark malt, peaty smoke, absolutely treacle flavors. Finishes towards dry. Treacly, but not sugary. Just improves with consumption. Best Meantime I’ve had to date.

Black and low carbonation. It makes me think of a cross between a scotch ale and a Baltic porter. There is a flavor of lager yeast. Some sugar, and lightly roasted malt.

Pours deep mahogany/black into a thistle. Off-white head with excellent retention leaves no lacing. Dark caramel aromas. Smoked peat upfront turning thin and caramel in the finish, then back to the smoke.

750ml bottle-pours a big foamy to rocky light brown head and murky black color. Aroma is wood/grainy, peat/roasty, dark malt-chocolate/slight anise, earthy, slight acidic, dark fruit—prunes. Taste- the tar and ash dominate then the characteristics from the aroma comes out. Thanks to Steve LAK.

Shared by notalush, thanks. Pours a very dark brown color and a small tan head. Aroma is thick, muddy, black raisin bread and some alcohol. Wet leaves aws well. Taste is lighter than expected from the aroma. There is a light alcohol raisin bread. Finishes light with a short flavor. Comes of as a very British Scotch ale, almost like a English barleywine with a Scotch ale.

Dark red/brown beer, with a faint wisp of a head - aroma of plum, and soft undercurrents of chocolate, cherry, caramel, and gentle earth/peat character - fairly mellow and refined flavor (I’m used to examples of the style that are fairly aggressive, so this is a welcome change) - plumy sweetness rides atop a very light but present peat/scotch flavor - toffee and chocolate sweetness arrive in the finish, along with a very subtle bitterness - this is a very nice beer.

750 ml bottle from Country Club liquors; only a tiny puff upon opening and crystalized black around one side of cork, but a nice one finger tan head upon pouring; black body; nose of chocolate, with a note of dark friut and coffee; flavor is chocolate, caramel, and a hint of peaty smokiness. Excellent stuff! At $7.49 I better get a couple more while the getting is good!

Tampa Tuesday tasting night – blind tasting, courtesy of Degarth. Pours dark brown with tall firm mocha head. The aroma is a bit mild with faint roasty malts followed by bushy shrubs, mild smoke and faint caramel. The aroma wasn’t too strong making pinning down the different notes tough. The taste has a nice mix of peat, smoke and caramel candy. From my point of view it is a solid Scotch Ale with mild earthiness well off in the background rounding out the experience.
