Fortunato is a Belgian-style Trappist Ale. This high alcohol (7.5% ABV) and very complex ale is brewed in the finest Belgian tradition. Like most Trappist style ales, Fortunato's complexity comes from using authentic Belgian ingredients as well as an authentic Belgian Trappist ale yeast. Fortunato is definitely a beer that you don't want to miss!

A bit off target. Some sourness in taste. Smell has some florals. Pours cloudy dark orange. No head, no lacing. Uneven taste that shows off too much booze.

Deep dark brown and amber body with a very thin, oily head, just a tip. Aroma of roasted malt and pit fruits, some light apples and pears and a good strong yeastiness. Medium-bodied; Strong sour note at first of cherries with a good malt flavour, some lighter fruit sweetness and a hint of yeast and prunes in the finish - a touch of earth as well. Aftertaste is nice and robust with a bit more malt and pit fruits than I’d expect, but not a bad beer at all. Overall, an interesting take on a belgie - more of a dubbel to me of course, but showing some good deep flavours coupled with a nice sweetness. I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from Merchant’s in Dearborn, Michigan on 30-July-2010 for US$1.99 sampled at home in Upstate New York on 08-December-2012.

12 ounce bottle into chalice, no bottle dating. Pours hazy brick red color with a small off white head with ok retention, that reduces to a thin ting of lace. Minimal spotty lacing on the glass; minimal streaming carbonation. Aromas of big raisin, prune, grape, pear, molasses, caramel, and light yeast spiciness. Aromas are ok, but are really sweet with almost no spiciness. Taste of raisin, prune, caramel, pepper, apple, toast, biscuit, molasses, earth, and slight yeast spices. Lingering notes of dark fruit, molasses, caramel, biscuit, toast, earth, and yeast spices on the finish for a bit. Flavors seem a bit stale and off balance. Slight cloying sweetness as well. Light carbonation and medium bodied; with a fairly slick and creamy mouthfeel. Alcohol is well hidden at 7.5% with hardly any warming after the finish. Very smooth to sip on. Overall this is a pretty mediocre Belgian trappist ale. Definitely needs more peppery yeast spices to balance it out at the very least.

sampled at last summer’s Michigan Brewer’s Fest - Pours hazy orange with a lingering head. It has a fruity, yeasty aroma. The flavor is sweet with tasty fruit notes. It’s medium bodied with a lively palate. Good beer.

12 oz bottle. Pours brown amber with a small white head. Aroma starts with clove and bubble gum, moving into caramel with a hint of earthiness. Flavor has some caramel and cloves with the same earthy undertones. A pretty nice introduction by this brewery.
