Bottle 33 cl. Pours an opaque black with a gigantic, frothy beige head with excellent retention. Sweet roast aroma, also with some hazelnuts and vanilla. Rich, sweet, filling body - again some vanilla accents atop the licorice roast. But well made, and perhaps the best South Plains ever? 171218

Svart med høyt tykt lys brunt skum. Lukter kaffe, noe floralsk, lakris, noe bark og brunt sukker. Fyldig. Smaker salt lakris, kaffe, mørk sjokolade, havre og noe laktose. Middels lang.

Thank you for sharing tderoeck & Filip. 330 ml. bottle sampled @ LIBF 2017. Black, mocha head. Nose is sweet weird plastic, new car smell, weird. Taste is chocolate, new car, way too plastic, weird liquorice, star anise, oddly sour,..; Body is liquorice, bit sour,… Quite a mess, not into ti. Pastis makes sence, star anise, no overkill but other issues.

Swedish imperial stout, sampled at LIBF. Thick membranous-like lacing, moussy, pale yellowish beige, open head over a jet black beer. Aroma of lots and lots of liquorice candy and indeed the anise effect of pastis, dry tree leaves, chocolate sauce, tea, caramel, leather, coffee grounds, eucalyptus, beef stock. Candied date and pear syrup sweetness in the onset, softish carb, thick and indeed – as expected – oily mouthfeel; chocolatey and hazelnutty malt body, more sweet than bitter, low in roastedness but instead overpowered by a strong liquorice and aniseed aspect; tea-ish herbal hop touch and rum-like warming alcohol in the finish. Too spice-forward for me personally but technically well executed.
