Bourbon and cola notes with lots of barrel. Deep jet brown with a rich light brown head. Bourbon, dark chocolate and the syrup come through in the finish.

The aroma is heavy licorice and dark barley, has muddy dark brown body and modest beige foam on top. Flavour is heavy spicy barley with molasses and caramel in full. Mouthfeel is very sweet and kind of too cloying. The alcohol is well hidden but this is still very heavy and strong.

650 ml bottle. Pours black with full tan head. Aromas of spicy bourbon, maple syrup and soft roasted malts. Flavors of oaky bourbon with maybe a little smoke, thin maple syrup, and metallic roasted malts. A bit of a jumble ultimately coming out acidic and oaky. Interesting though.

650mL bottle, pours black with a medium tan head. Nose is full of maple syrup, light bourbon, and medium roasted malt. Flavour is decadent, with lots of bourbon barrels upfront, accentuated by maple syrup, and light-medium roasted malt. Bourbon and oaky heavy on the finish, but a little harsh and not as well-integrated as an upper tier BA impie stout. Still, very enjoyable.

Taster. Appearance: muddy dark brown with a beige head. Aroma: maple syrup, burnt sugar and malt, not sure whether there is any bourbon. Taste: along the same lines with some wood and burnt malt notes, ashy, roasty, quite thin. Overall: the worst version of the IS from Steamworks I've had on tap.

Draught at the brewery
Pitch black colourwith compact brown head. Aroma of smores and roasted nuts. The flavour is dominated by roasted nuts, a bit ashy, with some bourbon and hints of maple; on the plus side it's smooth and not boozy, but also the roast is too strong and it would really do better with some more body and sugars.
