Perfect after a windy and rainy walk, yesterday, along the lake. Too sweet and a bit disgusting at the beginning after some sips you get a subtle nectar in the mouth, yeasty, fruity, raisin, apricot, smooth, malty, almost no carbonation, not usual. 17.11.2023

(Draught at Dynamo Bar de Soif , Brussels, 19 Oct 2024) Dark red colour with brief, pink head. Fruity, funky nose with cherries, red fruit, almonds and barnyard. Fruity, tart taste with notes of cherries, red-currant, almonds, lemon and a dry finish with a clean acidity. No bitterness. Medium body, dry. Rich and well made kriek. Very nice.

0.25 l bottle from 'Slik for Voksne', best before December 2027. A little hazy, deep ruby with a few off-white bubbles on top of it. Sweetish-malty, quite fruity aroma of molasses, vanilla, raisins, plums, strawberry jam and light bourbon. Rather sweet, malty, gently fruity taste of molasses, vanilla, strawberry jam, raisins, plums and just some bourbon, followed by a medium long, moderately bitter, slightly boozy, a bit woody finish. Medium to full body, oily mouthfeel, flat. Good one, maybe a bit past its prime.

Thanks to Tangorod and zid for multiple bottles of fresh Thomas Hardy Ale. I have had many aged ones over the years.

Bottle number 42379.

It pours a hazy red, small head of foam that shrinks to a ring around the glass.

Smells of piney hops, caramel malt, more caramel malt, toffee, oak and vanilla.

Taste follows, much caramel malt with a cutting pine like bitterness, dark fruits, didn't get that in the smell but most welcome, toffee, oak, raisins, a bit nutty, some of the ample alcohol.

Close to full bodied, carbonation is not quite light, not quite medium, somewhere in between.

Good lord, even fresh, this is a taste to behold, or to put it another way, a taste to relish!

Only time will tell if this new rendition will stand the test of time like the Eldridge Pope beers; for my fellow beer drinkers who have enjoyed the aged Thomas Hardys in the past, I hope so!

Pours with some viscosity to disparate short-lived head over red-amber beer. Runny cheese, caramel, alcohol & fusels, hint @ wood. Sweet, nutty, walnuts, aged cheese, hint at milkchocolate. Again fusely-alcoholic; Raisins, marinated grapes, boerejongens . Cheesiness is remarkable throughout (runny cheesy, not like old hops). Slick, even oily feel, alcoholheat. Saying this would be faulty, would be cursing in church. But I dare to doubt Thomas Hardy's needs barrel aging - especially in colonial vats.
