Brown with a frothy off-white head and malt and hops on the nose. Light bodied, fresh with fruit malt and floral hops nicely balanced, a touch of bitterness and a hint of spice ahead of a dry bitter finish.

Friday afternoon, 31st January 2025; hand-pulled pint in the Castle Hotel, Bishops Castle, about 100 yards from the brewery. Clean and clear brown, copper bronze body, off-white crust that hung around for a while. Hop bitter with a decent malty base that gives a slight nutty flavour; no Citrus fruits were harmed brewing this beer.

31/1/2024. Cask at the 15th Colchester Winter Ale Festival. Pours clear bright copper amber with a small frothy just off-white head. Aroma is fruity, malty, biscuit, hops, flowers, bready edge. Medium sweetness, moderate bitterness and body. Slightly oily, average to soft carbonation. Well done.

Cask at Hops, Crewe. Pours “bitter brown” with a small white head and good lacing. There’s not much of an aroma, just whispers of malt and herbs. A bit more bite in the mouth, which features breadrolls, nuts, malt and traditional hops plus traces of herbs, honey and ginger. Overall it’s sweet, but there’s an underlying bitterness as well. A decent solid bitter.

Cask. Pours a generally clear brown, small off-white head. Aroma bears some soft malt, lightly nutty. Taste is pillowy soft malt, lightly grainy, nutty, faint earth, brown bread with an underlying sweetness. Decent sessionable best bitter, though I find myself yearning for a stronger version.
