This Belgian Style quad is like your favourite onesie, it can be enjoyed alone but is great to share. Its big, its bold and its most definitely complex with aromas of cherry, stewed fruit, Christmas spice, orange and nutmeg and boasts flavours of toffee, honey and cindered caramel, dates, caramelised raisins, a subtle hit of banana and a pleasant warming kick.

Tap at Acido Acida 2021, in Ferrara, Italy. Pours brown, kind of unattractive. Aroma is rich: malty, caramel, figs, woody. Body is thick, sticky, with moderate carbonation. Taste is markedly sweet. Final is fairly long and pleasant.

23rd September 2020 Clear amber brown beer, just a few tan bubbles that aren't even numerous enough to form a halo. Palate is smooth and relatively light. Reasonable fine carbonation. Light caramel malts, a trace of malt cream sweetness, but the latter is kept in check by an unusually (for a quad) bitter undertone. A vague whiff of salty licorice in the bitterness. Good ripe fruits on top, and they are much needed to bring this quad to heel. Quite a spicy warning finish, some mild gum numb to boot. A flavoursome quad for sure, but if you have one of these, I would give it a couple of years at least.

Bottle shared with Caesar. Murky brown color, virtually no head. Aroma is malts, sweetish, (Dutch) "peperkoek". Flavor is similar, with some spices and a candy sugary and slight raisins note. Quite ok. I quite like this one.

Keg @ Bailey Head. Pours a hazed deep amber brown, minimal off-white bubbles atop. Aroma brings sweet, dark candi sugar, nutty caramelised notes. Overall character is perhaps too reliant on the candi sugar / muscovado additions which dominate with an overly sweet presence, more richness of dark malt seem appropriate to balance out this sticky, almost cloyingly sweet booziness, accentuated by a weak carbonation. Trappist clones rarely work (the bar is pretty high) and this simply falls way short.
