Abt 12 aged for 3-years in old oak barrels that we previously used to make our St. Bernardus Abt 12 Oak Aged in 2014. The purpose of this aging is to let the beer go sour. In may 2019 we have blended it with 60% freshly brewed beer and bottled it in 75cl bottles.

From tap at Speciaalbier Café De Markies, Leeuwarden. Sourish with an aroma of dry oak, dried fruits, caramel, raisins, and malt. Bit tart, light sour and sweet. Notes of toffee, apple. Body is medium. Not that complex but fairly good, pleasant, if a bit underwhelming.

Corked and capped 750 mL bottle, 12/2622. Poured into a Trappist goblet. Dark brown, clear, medium tan head, average retention. Aroma of toast, dates, brown sugar, cherry, oak, paper, mild bit of funk. Some olive and vinous notes. Taste is leather, cherry, toffee, brown sugar, funk, oak. Bright, complex, interesting, booze well hidden. High carb. Nice beer.

Delicious, offering up deep veins of fig, date, cherry, and oak, underlined by a gentle sourness and finished off with vinous notes and wood. Just a great beer.

Clear red brown colour with lasting clingy head. Aroma and flavour and definitely in the direction of a sherry with lots of dried fruits and wood. The base beer is definitely there and the light banana sweetness keeps it balanced.

Pours hazy mahogany into a tulip. Tan head with good retention recedes to skim surface. Oak and cherry aromas. Soft with tart dried pit fruit and caramel upfront turning even more tart in the warm, lasting finish. Yummy.
