Thanks! 330 ml. bottle sampled. Totally amber, pale amber, seriously? Looks like the amber version even. Nose is very poor spoiled rotting wine mixed with awful plastic candy, rotting cellar some oxidation. Taste is all band-aid spoiled wine, plastic, awful spoiled sweet candy, oxidation, tastes like old cellar rubbish even if fresh. Weirdly thin band aid, oxidation sugar, cellar rubbish body. Something about this or something about this bottle I quite disliked, didn’t bother with it, an alias of something else I presume? Que Joris his review this beer is still around 9 years later sold only inLokeren it appears.

thnx to David S. Pours dark, unclear amber , small , unpersistant head. Smell is sweet, perfumy, bandaid. Taste is bit tart, sweet, corny malts. Aftertaste is kinda malty, cereal-like, which is the sole good thing about the beer.

So far only found in Lokeren. At least originally a kind of oud bruin-like ale related to Ichtegem’s Oud Bruin, with dark mahogany colour and creamy, stable, light beige head; not sure if the current recipe is still the same as it was before. Pleasant aroma including chocolate, yoghurt, hay, passion fruit, red berries, lots of caramel; caramelly taste, fairly complex due to lactic acidity, fruity esters, some iron, well-rounded, drying but soft tartness in the finish nicely balanced with fruity and candi-like sweetness. A well-balanced and enjoyable beer, though I doubt if something oud bruin-like was ever made in the Waasland region - hadn’t I known its relationship with Lokeren, I would have situated this in the Oudenaarde region.

Clear purple brown beer, aery beige head, pretty stable, bit adhesive. Aroma: dried fruits, some caramel, chocolate, brown sugar. MF: soft carbon, medium body. Taste: pretty sweet start, caramel, sugary, slightly sour, some dried fruits. Aftertaste: sugary, some mocha, little bitter, metallic, sourish touch.

If it hadn’t been for Bontus’ rating, I’d remained in profound belief that this beer had been shelved for the longest time. Well, it’s still very much around, but apart from my deepest cellar shelf, I hadn’t seen it around. Only problem, the shelf-sample had been purchased in 1985... Disparate yellowish head, over red-brown ale. Fusels & esters nose, a touch of vinegar on wood, nuts. Pretty severe Oud Bruin nose. Sweet-sour in good balance, madeirisation outspoken, bit of acetic acid, but only a hint; tannines, however abound. Vestiges of a rich Oud bruin flavour that was once quite complex. Very watery body, because of its age, and the acids’ thinning. When this bottle was young, I thought "Dobbelken" one of, if not outright the best from Strubbe. This one is aged a tad too much, and I’ll be on the lookout for a reratable sample. It’s still quite interesting, though.
