Bursting with notes of citrus and tropical fruits, West Coast IPA boomed in the heart of San Francisco in the 70’s and 80’s. Citra, Mosaic and Ekuanot hops are crammed in, working in complete harmony with a West Coast yeast producing a beer that allows each hops’ character to take centre stage. Pale and bright, it’s big, bold and blonde with a sweet addictive finish. Our revival of the best from the West.

Cask at the White Swan, Solihull. Poured a clear golden colour with mostly lasting frothy white head. The aroma is malty, herbal. The flavour is moderate bitter, with a smooth, somewhat light, fresh, herbal, earthy, light sweet, woody hop bitter palate. Medium to light bodied with soft carbonation.

[January 2023] Golden amber with a frothy white head. Earthy with hints of tropical/citrus fruit on the nose, it’s the citrus that takes over in the taste with some floral hop character and a slightly bitter finish

500ml bottle from Bernie's Real Ale (Shirley, Brum); BBE Feb 2022. Drank in the afternoon sun on my patio on 22nd Apr 2021. Rich golden body, clean and clear, on top a white head that went away fairly swiftly to just a wisp and collar. Malty base with a mild citrus like twist, enjoyed it.

Bottle purchased direct from the brewer. Now showing as their take on a West Coast IPA. Deep gold, small white head with some retention but no lacing. Aroma is hoppy, malt, yeast, orange peel. Taste is zesty citrus peel, malts, a little spice. Moderate body and carbonation starts zingy but soon settles. Well balanced. Decent.

Cask @ The Abbey. Pours clear deep gold, frothy white collar. Aroma is focussed on pale malt, some light citrus English hop. Taste continues along these lines, nice flinty clear hop presence, good balance, great condition, generally quite light with high drinkability.
