Bottle from Drankenhandel Leiden. Aroma is dark and roasted malt with caramel, overripe fruits, alcohol, toffee, figs, and sweet sugary barley. Flavour is sweet with a mild to medium bitterness and a boozy finish. Body is medium to full. No subtle beer, rather sweet and boozy with some roast. Enjoyable and heavy.

The twenty first and last one of twenty-one beers for our 11th wedding anniversary. Charal's. Bottle 0.33l, more than six years aged. Cloudy, red amber to copper colored. AROMA- dark fruit and alcohol, plum, cherry, berries, strawberry. FLAVOR- lightly sweet, slightly bitter, very warming, a bit sharp alcohol, non-sweet berries, cherry, plum, rosehips. Full bodied. Very good.

Bottle from Mig & Ølsnedkeren. Pours hazy very dark rusty brown with a small brown head, some light floaties. Aroma of sweet malt, caramel, bread, rye, some light fruit. Flavor sweet, rich malty, caramel, rye, bready, dried fruity, alcohol. Medium body, soft to average carbonation, sweet finish with warming alcohol. Pretty nice classic barley wine. 250823

Rocky off white head on a reddish brown body. Toffee, port & boozy aroma. Medium bodied smooth thinning out to a clean back. Coffee, port, red wine & demerara tastes with a big boozy finish. All a bit mixed. Might improve by the BBE of 2043

Pours a dark reddish brown colour and a small beige head wit little retention. Aroma's: sweetish, bramble, light oxidation, raisin. Retronasal it's more oxidize, light umami. Flavour is moderate sweet & bitter with a touch of sour. Strong alcoholfeel, a bit burning. Earthy bitter finish.

Not actually black but a very dark brown, with a thin head that soon dissipates altogether. Smells boozy with dried fruit, caramel and malt. Flavour has dried fruit, apple, malt, caramel, a little zesty hoppiness. Rich and smooth and enough booziness to let you know to give it the respect the ABV deserves, though still a bit too drinkable at this strength.

Another appreciated De Molen brew obtained in an exchange with good friend Benzai, all the best to you. My glass of choice this evening is the Great Heights snifter for this 33 cl bottle. I see 15% abv on the label, pretty potent, and also the info of bottling on 1/26/18. The liquid is a medium chocolate-brown with a light covering of wheat-colored foam, promptly gone. I like the nose, dark fruit and grain and something earthy. And I like the taste also, black plum, raisin, chocolate malt, wheat crackers along with a definite boozy presence. Good stuff, another winner from De Molen.

Tap at Beergeek Bar. Hazy dark red body, off white head. Sticky fig maltiness in the aroma, tons of caramel, some alcohol, a classic barrel aged malt bomb in general. Dry taste, red grape, a touch of mint, then heavy oxidation, quick dry finish... Urgh. No.
