Belgian Dubbel Bruin. Inspired by the strong bruin (brown) ales created by Belgian breweries. Head Brewer Phill has layered a complex malt base into Dubbel using a specially selected blend of seven different malts including honey malt & oats.

The resulting beer has been fermented out to a warming 7% ABV using a Trappist style yeast on a bed of dates and figs to add rich stone fruit flavours to the classic Belgian yeast notes.

330ml bottle bought from the brewery and drunk at home. Light reddish brown with a clear body and a ring of off-white head. Light smell of dates and fruity caramels. Taste is sweet at first but there's a gentle hoppy bitterness toward the finish. Light body for the ABV with medium to high carbonation. Decent enough dubbel but I'm surprised by other's high rates.

Bottle from Stori. Appearance - deep brown with maybe a hint of red. Off-white, thin head. Nose - brown sugar going into toffee. Taste - toffee, toffee, toffee. Palate - medium bodied, sweet middle and finish. A bit cloying. Overall - a bit sweeter than Dubbel should be but somewhat missing in the Belgian yeast tang that you'd hope for.

Bottle from Bargain Booze, Mold. Dark reddish-brown with next to no head. Fruity and very sweet in its nose, with this sweetness carrying through to its taste, clearly with a strength. There’s a few dark malts to enjoy here. Has a very mild fizz in the palate.

Bottle from Gravity Station, Cardiff. Pours deep dark ruby brown with a small short lasting tan head. Stunning aroma of malt, dark fruits, plum, blackberry, banana and vanilla. Quite heavy on sweetness, with light bitterness. Full bodied, slick/oily texture, carbonation is a touch too fizzy. Finish of lasting malty and fruity sweetness. Apart from the higher than expected carbonation level, this beer is top notch.

330ml bottle from Stori Beer & Wine, Bala. Pours deep brown with good tan head. Promising dubbel sweetness in the aroma. Taste is a flavoursome dubbel with plenty of caramel, brown sugar, dried fruits and spice. Without doubt the best Hafod I’ve had so far. Very good dubbel.

@ Hucknall Beer Festival - a quality looking and smelling brew, dark brown body, thin frothy white head. Nose of fruit, the dark cake variety, almost rum-like. The taste is initially sweet, but has a richness to it similar to a secondary liqueur casked ale, with a massive hit of booze at the end. To say I liked this is an understatement, many will follow who disagree, but this was the highlight of my day!
