500ml bottle from Appleyards, the now-expected surprise end-of-the-night bottle shared at the 10th Shrewsbury Bottle Share, Jan 15. Pours deep dark brown with a modest white head. Taste is surprisingly thin and a touch watery even. Can’t detect any vanilla elements whatsoever. Had better from this brewery.

Bottle at Chez Sophie, Shrewsbury on 26th Jan 2015. Dark brown pour with a thinning white topping. Chocolate notes in the nose, with some woody esters too. Chocolate in the taste with a mild Vanilla finish, no Bourdon for my senses. Decent and a pleasant beer to finish off a steady drinking session. Nearly fell asleep on the train home (again).

Bottle from the Bottle Bank. Appearance - dark in fact opaque, thin attractive head. Nose - milk chocolate with a mere hint of creamy vanilla. Taste - milk biscuits. Palate - medium bodied with a creamy texture and a long dry finish. Overall - solid.

Bottle from the brewer’s own stand at the Good Food Show at Birmingham NEC. Dark brown. Chocolate and wood. Very smooth. Vanilla is hinted at in finish but is not overpowering. Decent beer.
