(Draught at Foersters Feine Biere, Steglitz, Berlin, 9 May 2019) Amber colour with lasting, rocky, off-white head. Malty nose with bread, orange peel, toast, toffee and mandarin. Malty taste with notes of bread, caramel, orange marmalade, apricots and a mild spicy bitterness. Almost full body, with a certain sweetness. Well balanced and warming. Quite nice.

Amber with a tall, frothy head. Mild herbal aroma with apple cider tones. Taste is bittersweet up front, trends rapidly bitter though and finishes with a dry, sustained bitterness. Overly hopped for a Doppelbock by my preference—am missing the sweeter, caramel and toffee tones I like to find in a beer of this style. Fruitiness is minimal. It feels grainy and harsh. Medium body with mild carbonation. Still drinkable.

(bottle) Clear, deep golden colour with a medium-sized and minimally off-white foamy head. Bready malty aroma with notes of honey, a tinge of caramel, as well as mildly spicy and slightly flowery hops. Moderately sweet and slightly bitter flavour, full bodied with a soft carbonation. Solid and slightly bready malty base with traces of caramel, subtle honey-fruity notes and a drying herbal hoppy touch towards the slightly boozey finish. Strong stuff. 24.V.18

€-Fläschla: Deep golden, almost clear, small - stable and lacy - off-white head; moderate bitter-sweet nose of grains, pale malt and strawy hops with mild barnyardy traces, molecular traces of alcohol in the background; moderate bitter-sweet flavour, nearly full bodied and pretty soft; lingering herbal-hoppy and pale-malty finish. A well balanced and well hopped Doppelbock. Reliable franconian quality...
