T: medium malty base, orange, banana, funky touch, bit spicy, grapefruits, caramel, dry hoppy on the palate, long lasting harmonic bitterness, very nice balanced beer, fully enjoyed.

Modern (American-inspired) pale ale refermented with Brettanomyces from a new microbrewery housed inside a castle called ‘Domein Leeflank’ in Lede (north of Aalst), run by a company that already apparently makes wine. Tasted at Gents Bierfestival. Snow white, bubbly, papery lacing, irregular head, lightly hazy deep and warm amberish-tinged orange blonde robe. Aroma of dried orange peel, fresh mandarin, horseblanket and damp hay (clear Brettanomyces effects), old moldy lemons, bitter weeds, persimmon, hard caramel candy, grass. Sweetish onset with fruity apricot and peach aspects, light sourish undertone, lively carbonation but supple, smooth mouthfeel; hard-caramelly and lightly biscuity malt body, streamlined and sweetish with minerally effects on the sides, drenched in a citric, hayish hop bitterness on the one hand and an earthy, musty, bit urine-like Brettanomyces effect on the other hand, both working well together; fruity esters continue afterwards. Easygoing and quenching, but not without complexity, with a profile reminiscent of the many Brett IPAs and Brett APAs produced by progressive craft breweries in many other countries, a profile I would like to think was originally inspired by Orval. Interesting start for a new brewery – if this is the quality this ‘Domein Leeflank’ can deliver, then I would recommend them to use their experience with wine in following beers as well, who knows what beauty might come out of that.

Damn backlog, could've been first... :p
Clear orange beer, big solid creamy white head, stable, adhesive, leaving some lacing in the glass. Aroma: quite some citrus, tropical fruits, pineapple, mango. MF: ok carbon, medium body. Taste: pretty fruity start, pineapple touch, more fruity, citrus, very bitter. Aftertaste: bitter, fruity, some sweet malts, bit resinous, very bitter.
Probably the best beer from Brew Society so far...
