12oz bottle, no date, poured into glass mug from Coney Island Brewing. Dark brown color but looks black. Head is small but retention is long, sticks around. Aroma is clean earthiness with light roast. Most importantly clean yet full. Flavor is mineral sprtiz lagering with just a very light roast at the end of the flavor. Full yet delightful tingly on the palate. Superbly done, its nice to have such a well made schwarz available in my area. Looking forward to having my Full Sail Black Lager replacement.

Draft in Newtown, PA. Black color, thin white head. Aroma is mild chocolate, burnt grain and Saaz hops. Flavor shows an abundance of lingering Saaz hop bitterness that gives a dry texture. Simple and easy to drink and tries to be like the better German examples but... Really isn’t.

Barcade, Philadelphia tap ($6): Pous a black color with a tan head. Aroma is straw, smoke, roasted malt, and grassy hops. Taste is much the same. Nice body. Easy drinking, but nice and complex at the same time. Confused why this isn’t a schwarzbier.

I'm struggling with this one because isn't this just a schwarzbier? Thin and crispy body. Aroma has light roast and smoke. Flavor is similar with the smoke lingering. Light earthy hops. Has the makings of a pils initially but the light smoke comes on after malt. Decent.
