At Café Congé, Ghent, shared with Anke. Pours hazy pale yellow/white, no head. The aroma contains apple, pineapple, yeast, 'bacteria', lactic acid, bread & dough. It tastes medium fruity sour and only light sweet, with a rather short, tart finish. Light body, slick texture, soft carbonation. This was not presented as a Berliner Weisse, let alone as a piña colada version, so I approached it unprejudiced. Not that bad, I should have it again.

Collaboration of La Quince with Hedonis, The Stuyck and Instituto de la Cerveza Artesana, conceived as a "Piña Colada Berliner Weisse", with added pineapple juice and coconut milk... Lacing, stable, medium thick, snow white head over a misty pale straw blonde beer with grass green tinge. Aroma of cold sour yoghurt, feta, sweat, spoiled cucumber, moldy lemons, unripe gooseberries, wakame, raw unripe pineapple perhaps but in this case that could just as well be autosuggestion. Spritzy onset, quenching, softly tart, yoghurty and unripe pineapple-like but no actual pineapple flavour, starfruit, hard unripe pear; wheaty soapiness in the middle, drying lactic tartness persisting, sweetish bready barley peeping through, finishes with a sour lemony touch - probably the pineapple effect, but again, no outspoken pineapple (or recognizable coconut) flavour is to be found. Or nothing even remotely reminiscent of a Piña Colada, for that matter - a missed opportunity I think, though I am left wondering if this cocktail's sweet aromatics would really fit well in a tart and soapy Berliner Weisse... Still, a very interesting and refreshing beer for sure.
