On tap. Pours pitch black with a nice and dense beige head. An initial vanillaish roastiness in the nose. Rich body, roasty but not overly so, some bitter chocolate. gets a little buttery as it warms - especially in the nose, but still a very solid strong black. 101113

On tap at Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. Yes, I was in the jury of the homebrewers’ competition and voted this one a winner, but I haven’t actually tasted the commercial version untill now. Black colour, large and creamy brown head. Pleasant roasty aroma, notes of mild coffee and dark chocolate, hints of cedar wood and tobacco. The juniper notes are there, and contribute with a "freshness" to the aroma, but do not dominate. Smooth flavour, but still distinctly roasty with coffee notes, also notes of tobacco, juniper, wood and English liquorice, and a pronounced hoppy bitterness in the finish. The alcohol is well hidden. Interesting and tasty beer! Many thanks both to the homebrewers of Holmen Nanobryggeri (ratebeerians Holmen1 and Holmen2) and to the professional brewer, Mike Murphy of Lervig. Well done!

Sampled @ Haand 2013. Black body with a small brown head. Aroma of dark, roasted malt, dry fruit and some chocolate. Flavor of sweet, dark, roasted malt, coffee, chocolate and spices, moderate bitterness. Fine body, and decent aftertaste. Quite interesting, tasty and somehow balanced beer, even if a bit unusually.
