Location: Draft at the Berghoff, 6/2/14

Aroma: The nose has some light hop notes, citrus, and some malt hints as well
Appearance: It pours a clear golden-orange color with a small head
Flavor: The flavor is much the same, light and okay, decent hop flavor, light malt backing
Palate: The body is medium, leaning light, with an okay mouthfeel
Overall Impression: There isn't anything particularly wrong with this beer, it just isn't too exciting. Okay beer, but not something I'd run (or even walk briskly) back for.

12oz bottle poured into a shaker. Pours a clear pale yellow with about a finger of white head. Aroma of straw, grains and corn with a little citrus. Taste is about the same. Light bodied with a thin texture. Fizzy carbonation and not much of a finish. Overall, just like every other Berghoff I’ve had, this beer is crap. I would call this a "Premium Lager" long before I called it an APA.

Bottle. Sweet orange and malt aroma. No hops detectable in the aroma. Light amber with a moderate off white head, decent lacing. Light malt and vegetal flavor. No discernible hops flavor. Reminds me more of some Märzens I’ve had.

Bottle. Clear amber body. Minimal white head. Moderate aroma of toasted grain and caramel with some notes of flowers and sweat. The flavor is moderately sweet and lightly bitter. It finishes lightly to moderately bitter, lightly sweet and lightly acidic. Medium body, watery texture and lively carbonation. Off-taste of lighter fluid that turns soapy. Little hop presence.

12 oz. bottle, It’s a $5 sixer sale from Sam’s on Clybourn, and I don’t mind stocking up cheap lawnmowers in the summer. A nice beer smell as soon as I twist the cap. Widens to include a surprise whiff of hops in the glass. And here’s another surprise: it actually looks like a pale ale when poured: coppery orange body, stiff eggshell colored head. And the taste is actually pretty good. A nice hop bill with some cirus, pepper and a touch of pine. Hops actually overpower a slightly lessened caramel malt base. Unfortunately for the brewer, that’s not enough to compete in a field dominated by the likes of Alpha King and Sierra Nevada. So I’ll call this "good" and have some out on a hot day like today.

Pours nice, very hoppy. Taste not nearly as hoppy as expected, but good thickness. Very good Pale Ale.

bottle - Pours coppery colored and clear with almost no head. There’s a mild, hops aroma. The flavor has a fairly tasty hops bite with less impressive malt flavors. It thin to medium bodied and finishes with moderate hops bitterness that’s pleasant enough. Not bad.

This is a lighter pale ale. I am not sure why it is designated as an American; it has the floral and fruit elements common to an IPA. The hops are underwhelming, but that makes it accessible to more drinkers. Not bad.

Pour is a nice copper color with a white head. Aroma is a nice mix of hops and malts. The problem is in the flavor. Nothing stands out. Where are the hops? Finishes watery and bland.
