After a day spent wandering the cool, dark corridors between our stacks of beer resting within barrels, the notion for The Flanders Giant was born. Constructed by blending select barrels of our most baroque beer, The Flanders Giant takes what our team loves best about tart, Flemish beers and boozy American-style barrel aged ales. Notes of leather, black plums, and tart cherries are accented by sturdy, American oak & whiskey. It’s Flanders beauty matched with American drama.

Bottle at tasting. Muddy brown pour. Aroma of bourbon vanilla, red fruit, oak, tart and caramel. Taste has tart, red fruit, sour oak, heavy bourbon vanilla, caramel fudge and a big boozy finish with an alcohol afterburn. Somewhat rough, but nice.

Poured from a 750 ml bottle. Aroma has a bit of a malt character with some toffee, dark caramel and toasted bread. Hints of chocolate. Some light acidic notes with berries, raisins, cherries, cassis and plum. Light alcohol spice with moderate bourbon and light oak notes. The combination is a bit nail polish like, but I don’t think its actually that. Pours a somewhat murky, brown color with a medium large, somewhat thick, tan head that almost immediately disappears to the edges where it lingers just a bit. No lacing or legs. Flavor is somewhat acidic with a bit of a sharpness to it. Moderate malt notes with toffee, dark caramel, toasted bread and hints of chocolate. Medium bourbon notes with some light oak and medium light alcohol spice. Quite a bit of fruit notes with spiced plums, cherries, cassis, raisin and berry. Mouthfeel is medium full bodied with medium carbonation. Low astringency and moderate alcohol warmth. Overall, a very stereotypical Bruery beer. Too high ABV and muddled with the bourbon and Flanders notes.

Bottle thanks to Will. Pours a clear copper with small white head that diminishes to nothing. The aroma is leather, tobacco, oak. Medium body, strong oak, leather, vinegar, off finish.

750ml bottle thanks to darrel. Pours a amber color with a ring of a head. Nose is big oak vinegar some cherries and plenty of booze. taste is more of the boozy oak barrels cherries and balsamic vinegar. Really can we make some nice sours in the 5 to 6 percent range. They are good but this hight abv stuff is not.

750mL bottle, pours a cloudy dark orange with a small beige head. Aroma brings out balsamic vinegar, dark tart fruits and some oak. Flavour is very complex, with oaky wood, some balsamic, tart dark fruits and leather. Really well-balanced, with a bit of booze on the finish. Excellent beer.

750 ml shared by Adamchandler from the RS. Aroma is sour cherries, oak, balsamic vinegar and alcohol, like real boozy.

Attention! Attention! If you have a bottle of this I hope you cellar it a bit because what is in my glass is not good. It fact, I’m not sure age could even help this much. Huge sour oak, rotten cherries with a slap of ABV that is similar to bourbon but it’s hard to tell with all this nasty sour grain and rotten oak. Yep, we have another sour from The Bruery, another boozy vinegar bomb for the nerds that like barrel aged vinegar.

Dark hazy red. 1 finger head. Cherries and plum aroma. Taste is interesting. Tart, you can taste the alcohol. I get a medicinal taste. Cherries wood.
