This frothy ale is made with 9 different specialty malts, 100% English Fuggle hops, and nearly 300 pounds of real pumpkin. During and after the boil, we add a subtle blend of fresh-ground spices, resulting in a very smooth and malty, complex ale with noble hop and spice aroma. We hope you will get a chance to enjoy this limited offering, and no, it’s not just a glass of grandma’s pumpkin pie, it’s still a beer.

Year old bottle: Faint aroma of cinnamon and clove. Clear copper, floaties, no head. Clove initially, pleasantly sweet. Cinnamon finish. Well balanced and one of the best proportions of spices I’ve had in a beer. Cinnamon is most prominent. I didn’t detect pumpkin, which is perfectly fine by me. Holds up surprisingly well after a year.

10th October 2008. GABF. Clear gold beer. Dry palate. Spicy but not overwhelmingly so and allows a little pumpkin to come through.

Location: 12 oz bottle from Gilly's, 9/10/09

Aroma: Has the typical pumpkin spice aroma, I get a lot of spice, and not much else
Appearance: Nice clear amber color, very minimal head, light lace
Flavor: Nice spice, malt flavor, not much atypical going on here, put good pumpkin flavors
Palate: Nice fizzy mouthfeel, medium body, drinks nicely
Overall Impression: My 1st Pumpkin beer of '09, and I'm watching the first NFL game of the year as I drink it, its officially fall now, that's for sure. This is a solid example of a style that I enjoy for it's ability to remind me of fall more then it's taste characteristics. I like starting my September off with a nice Pumpkin Ale like this one.

Bottle on 09/27/2008 from Once Upon A Vine - South. Clear copper amber body with a medium creamy off-white head. Big pumpkin aroma with some light nutmeg and allspice. More allspice and pumpkin flavor, light nutmeg lingering behind. Medium body with moderate carbonation.

12 ounce bottle from Total Wine in Richmond, VA. Pours a clear reddish orange color with not much of an attempt at a head. Aroma is mainly pumpkin spice with some light pumpkin notes. Taste is straight up pumpkin spice with some malty notes. Bitter finish, but otherwise a bit too much on the sweet side. Thin bodied. Drinkable and fairly pleasant, but also boring and uncomplex.

12oz bottle. Coppery-amber color, filtered appearance. Heavy and deep spice aroma. The taste is similar, a very hearty and full pumpkin pie sweetness. Finish is rich and malty, with a lingering spicy sweetness. Better than your average pumpkin ale, worth a try if you are into the style.

Deep amber coloured body with orange tints and copper highlights with a thin tan head that fades fast. Nice pungent aroma of fresh hops, strong pumpkin, spice and sweet fruits. Light to Medium-bodied; Strong pumpkin taste up front fading to a bit of a malty taste along with the spices of nutmeg and cinnamon that last quite a while. Aftertaste stays bitter because of the malt and spice, but it actually finishes quite nicely. Overall, this one is pretty good - the pumpkin is very noticeable and the rest is decent. Good to try, especially because it is a ’local’ seasonal! I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from Chevy Chase Wine & Liquors in Washington, D.C. on 19-November-2005 on the Eastern Shore of Virginia.

Slightly darker than the ubiquitous pale yellow american lager. Has a hint of pumpkin aroma in the smell along with pumpkin spices but the aroma is mostly just plain beer. Initial taste is somewhat like a dark lager or alt. but that immediately morphs into the taste of an amber ale or APA. There is some pumpkin spice in the flavors and some bitterness is in the forefront. However, it doesn’t start building until you are well into the session. Alt flavors also contihnue thru to the finish. Not bad except for the average bitter bite that is present. IMHO one of the better pumpkin beers. Better and more enjoyable than most. Finish is mild bitter lingering medicine.

As previous people have said, this beer is very subtle. To be honest I’m happy and disappointed by that. I like how the pumpkin takes a slightly more center stage to the beer unlike so many out there that seem to only use spices with a hint of pumpkin flavor. Nothing overly bad about it, and perhaps will be revisited before the season is over.
