Bottle, 5.5%. OK papery aroma, hint of salt liquorice. Clear, very dark brown colour. Small stable light brown head. The flavour is roasted and papery to begin with, turning coffeeish with a distinct burnt coffee bitterness.

Bottle. Pours nearly clear dark copper brown with airy light tan head. Clear aroma of malt, chocolate and yeast. Bitter, roasty flavour with sweetish notes of yeast, lactose and malt and touches of hops and coffee. Roasty and estery aftertaste with lactic touches. Reasonable.

Creamy tan head stayed on a black still body. Sweet, malt & syrup aroma. Medium bodied, airy over the tongue with a clean back. Bitter/sweet berry, demerara, raisin, malt & citrus tastes with a tangy finish.

Small if persistent light-cream head over virtually black beer. Sweet coffee nose, sweetened coffee, Haagse Hopjes , roast. Quite roasted/burnt, bit leafy, burnt dough, coffee. Finish is rather bitter, chicory, rust. Rather well-bodied, well-carbonated, bit viscous. Feels stronger than it is. Decent stout.

Bottle at Firkin Alehouse Folkestone. Black beer lasting tan head. Yeast aroma. Solid stout. Some chocolate. Some roast. It's solid . All well made. All solid.

Le moins que l'on puisse dire est que ce stout n'est pas des plus réussi. D'ailleurs peut-on parler de stout ? Pas réellement...les arômes de café et de chocolat étant très discrets. Nous sommes davantage sur une double poussée sur l'amertume pour une bière très passable. En verre, le brun foncé surmonté d'une mousse généreuse est plutôt sympathique (EBC de 59). L'effervescence ezt tout de même trop poussée, ce qui dérangeant à la dégustation (pour ce type de bière bien entendu). Le nez n'est pas des plus emballant. Du caramel avec un soupçon de café, de chocolat, une pointe herbacée et de réglisse. A la dégustation, c'est avant tout l'amertume qui est en avant. Celle-ci, herbacée prend nettement l'ascendant sur le malt torréfié qui à l'instar du nez se positionne nettement sur le caramel, avec de petites variations sur le café et le chocolat. On y retrouve cet ensemble à l'attaque accompagné d'épices assez présente et de légères touches fruitées (poire). La deuxième bouche est linéaire avec des arômes qui n'arrivent clairement pas à accrocher le palais. L'arrière bouche est quant à elle plus amère, nous éloignant un peu plus du stout. L'amertume, avec un IBU de 44, est trop élevée vu la torréfaction du malt. Le final est heureusement d'une longueur appréciable et voit même le café être légèrement plus présent. L’alcool, à 5 % est très honnête, même s’il aurait pu être quelque peu poussé. Copie à revoir !

33 cl. bottle @ home, bought @ van Rooij, Culemborg. Black with a beige head. Roasted malts and some caramel in the aroma. Sweet taste. Thin body. Not much depth and flavour to it really.

Zwart bier met schuim. Smaak is bitter en heel licht zoet met iets van rood, ietwat zurig fruit en een vleugje koffie.

Bottle at home. Black with white head. Sweet deep roasted malts. Spoonful of molasses, hints of charcoal and loads of bready yeast, some blackberries. Quite sweet and bitter. Under medium body and soft carbonation. The yeast drank my coffee and ate my chocolate, then shit out a loaf of bread. Bit thin and too sweet. Should be either thicker or less sweet, in my opinion. The deep roast is rough and tickles my fancy. The steep and rough dry bitterness from the roast makes this drinkable.
