Noogfest Thanks to DrunkAsASkunk for bringing this one to me so long ago. Huge tan head supported by a black brew. Vanilla, bourbon with some chocolate/coffee notes as well. Good bourbon aged Porter but a strong sourness has gotten into this that totally detracts from all of the good things. I suspect this one has gone south.

Bottle Pours a deep inky black with a large faomy dark tan head. Lacing is coarse and spotty. Lots of dark pitted fruits aromas, chocolate and vanila and a little of that bourbon cask. Flavor is mainly very smokey and chocolate and yes, lacking that common porter tang. Very smooth though not particularly heavy and fairly lively carbonation. Very yummy. May have to hoard a few of these.

Bottled. Black, small head. Woody whiskey aroma. Fairly sweet and medium bodied with soft mouthfeel. Heavy on vanilla, low bitterness. The bourbon overpowers all finer details.

2003 bomber sampled in May 2004. Pours a very dark ash brown, with some blacks and dark orange tinges. Small beige head that stays around. Translucent with some sediment sitting in the bottom. Aroma of deep, raw bourbon, bittersweet and powerful. Flavor is highly bourbon charged, with a good dry roasty body. Has some vinous notes, a somewhat creamy consistency (odd for a bourbon aged porter). Good complexity, and though it’s dominated by bourbon flavor, it tastes wonderful and has a solid carbonation that gives it a firm tastey mouthfeel. Quite good and demanding of a second sample to fully figure out this beer. I still think it’s a bit overboard on the bourbon flavoring though.

Opaque, near black, with red tones. Smoky aroma, a hint of roast, definite bourbon notes. Jim Beamish notes, the more Bourbon I think, the more Bourbon it tastes. Vanilla and oaky notes are layered in those Bourbon flavors. Roasted sweet malts layer in the background. Light hops in the finish. Interesting sweetness from the Bourbon and caramelized malts. Hint of rising hops in the finish.

Well, I sure love porter, and I sure love bourbon, but in this case the combination doesn't quite work out - of course, if the beer were better it would make a big difference - solid bourbon and chocolate aroma, with slight alcohol fumes - the flavor is much thinner than I anticipated, quite thin for a porter - medium bodied - some vinous qualities - you can taste a decent amount of bourbon, some chocolate - coffee in the finish - the finish is actually fuller than the initial flavor, with a nice creaminess - this is decent, but I'm pretty disappointed with it.

Dark amber-tinged brown colour. Sweet butter-rum aroma with peanut notes is so rich and luscious you can't help but look forward to the sip. However, the thinnish body belies the richness of the aroma. There are coffee and peanutty notes, but nothing buttery or rummy. Hint of earth.
