1/I/18 - 75cl bottle from Geers (Oostakker) @ New Year's holiday (Ardennes) - BB: n/a (2018-1)

Cloudy reddish to rusty red brown beer, big creamy solid peach coloured head, very stable, non adhesive. Aroma: very fruity, lots of cherries, lots of funk, sour cherries, brett. MF: very lively carbon, medium to light body. Taste: acidic, very fruity, sourish, some tannins, lots and lots of sour cherries. Aftertaste: pretty sour, lemon juice, very fruity, acidic, bitter touch, lots of sour cherries.

Sour(is) kriek based on spelt beer, one of Donum Ignis' two novelties released last year and since recently available from bottles. Very thin and loose, dirty off-pinkish, bubbly head, almost instantly disappearing; misty deep fuchsia-red colour. Aroma of sour cherry juice indeed, sweat (sweaty socks even), raspberry yoghurt, old bread, redcurrant, rhubarb. Sour onset but not harshly puckering, sour cherry indeed but hinting at redcurrant and gooseberry too, crisp, apple-ish, medium carbo (in spite of the lack of head), supple cereally and lightly bready underground, lingering fruit sourness in the end with some vague sweetness hidden within; yeasty notes too. Quite straightforward, simple sour cherry beer, with the fruit hiding the beer's basic qualities including the spelt, which I did not notice at all. Pleasant enough though, and certainly not the sweet, sticky red candy beer I was fearing.

MBF 2016. Pours unclear red, big pink/white head. Smell is sweet, taste is sharp, bit bitter. Sweet and sugary cherry. Very simple. a soda pop with alcohol...

Sampled draft @ Modeste 2016. Bright red with a bright pink head, collapsing. Smell is rotting sweet cherries, vinous oddly mixed with some gelatin sweet cherry candy, conflicting. Taste is fermenting sour cherry juice, cherry pits, sour fermenting cherry juice mixed with some cotton candy, lightly lactic. Strange messy, not fully successful but not fully bad either. Cotton candy, cherry juicye & lightly lactci body.
