on tap at the new brewpub in the Byward Market. Nice aroma of bready malt, and some decent english hops. The flavor is hoppy with a good bitter finish, a decent bitter.

Just found this rating from a few years ago with this special brewing of their bitter with Apollo hops. Poured a cloudy amber colour with not much head, as was from cask. Hoppy nose with hints of fruity malts. Lots of these fruity malt notes in the taste with some oranges and hops. Mild citrus grapefruits. The mouthfeel is decently dry. Milder hops than usual, but still quite a nice alternative on their classic.

A special one-off that is unfiltered with lots of hops and yeast floating all around. Amber colour with a frothy warm cap and good retention. Probably the biggest head and longest lasting I have had at this brewpub. Sweet honey and fruity malt nose with a bit of grassy hops. Wet mouthfeel and medium-bodied. Not as hoppy as expected, but a nice consistent dry bitterness. Decent fruity malts with hints of burnt notes and nuts. A pretty good experiment with one of their classic brews and adding Cascade hops for those who prefer hoppier beers.

Use to have this one on cask back in the day, but had it recently on draft. Pours a clean amber colour with a small off-white head and decent lacing. The nose was fresh and nicely hoppy. Great crisp mouthfeel with a hoppy taste and grainy aftertaste. Nicely balanced between the hop and the malt (which give it a little burnt grain to it). I really like this one as it is a nice bitter and great session beer.

Keg at Clocktower Elgin St, Ottawa. Clear copper colour, small head. Fruity caramelly nose. Sweet with medium-full body and rounded mouthfeel. Syrupy sweet with some spice and hay. Caramelly malt. Mid bitter finish. Lifeless.

Decent bitter. Pours orange with ok head and lacing. Crisp malt aroma with some hops in finish to give it a taste of bitterness. Not much more going on here otherwise. Well_balanced British session ale though. Tap at Burden brewpub.

(5 avril 2013)

Okay amber body with little head, what do you expect from a brewpub brew on tap! Yet, the flavour is all right, plenty of malts and a bit of caramel and hops. Just all right.

Cask: Light brown beer with average head with minimum retention. Good floral aroma with some subtle sweetness. Taste is quite impressive with again great sweetness and ending with some dryness in the back of my mouth. This seems to enforce my suspicion that that bitter should only be drank from the cask and not bottle conditioned. I’m a bit surprise by the low rating of that one and wondered if the quality is really constant.

Hops, honey and grapefruit in the nose, very thin beer, lots of hops but would do with more malts...not balanced at all...notes of citrus near the end...it used to be a lot better than this...disappointed
