Our winter strong ale has a gorgeous mahogany hue, a hint of hazelnut, and a finish reminiscent of mocha and toffee. No spices, just a perfect blend of five specialty malts.

Pours deep mahogany into a Trappist glass. Stale sweet cardboard aromas. Offwhite congolmerate head has good retention and leaves sheet lacing as it slowly recedes. Sweet, full toffee with lasting bitter licorice finish. Flavor is better than aroma.

Bottle: Poured a deep burgundy color ale with a nice medium foamy head with good retention and lacing. Aroma of deep malt with some sweet dry fruits is really enjoyable. Taste is also dominated by the sweet malt with some presence of dry fruits and a hoppy slightly bitter finish. Body is above average with a nice level of carbonation and no alcohol is discernable.

A deep red beer with a fluffy brown head. The aroma is sweet with notes of fruit, prunes, caramel, nuts, and alcohol. The flavor is very sweet and very powerful with notes of fruits, both fresh and over ripe, as well as chocolate, nuts, caramel, prunes, alcohol, coffee, and roasted malt. The end is sweet with a slight bitterness

Not too shabby. Poured a little cheesy, but settled in with a chocolatey fruity note, with dancing spicy, almost citric hops. A woody resiny note is apparent, almost reminds me of the cedar in Kiuchiβs IPA, but not quite. Easy finish with a lingering hot palate. Fair.

Dark amber color with a wisp of an off white head. Multiple malt notes in the aroma along with a Barleywine style smell (yum). Big malt flavor combining crystal malts to give the caramel flavor, cherry like sweetness and highly roasted malts (such as black patent) for a porter like taste component near the end of the swill. Starting to notice burnt and coffee flavors too. Very good.

Bottled. Deep copper in color, with a dense, beige head. It has a sweet aroma with some alcohol, malt and a good dash of hops. The flavor is malty and sweet, with lots of piny and fruity hops in it, some alcohol too. Fullbodied, very bitter, hoppy beer, with a lightly roasted note and some alcohol in the finish. Hop-heaven in a bottle. (060513)
