Charlies Cool Porter is an organic porter at 5.9% ABV. Porter takes its name from the politically incorrect tradition that took place in the English ports in olden days. The harbour workers, the porters, had a beer or two in the morning before they had to start the hard work in the harbour. Charlie Chaplin was also politically incorrect in the thirties as were the brave Frenchmen, who established the satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo in the seventies. They made a lot of fun of self-importance, with institutions, religions as well as with those in power. No one escaped satire and there was an equal split out to the right and left. But it came to a tragic end by a cowardly attack which cost 17 people their lives. The consequence of this must not be that there is less room for satire and making fun of fools and rulers. Try this beer to heavy stews.

Bottle sample @ LIBF’17, thanks to the RB-InBev Belgian crew for the share.

dark brown, smooth light brown head. flowery hoppy and slightly roasted malty aroma. flavor is roasted malts, sweet malts, flowers, quite tasty, but hardly a porter as i see it, in fact the hornbeer czech cat i had just before was more roasted and darkish in the flavor. although not so porter like in the traditional sense, i like the flowery and fruity notes and find the beer quite tasty, just not what i had expected. Tastes like i mixed up 2/3 dark porter and 1/3 belgan tripe..

Draught @ One pint pub. Pours near black with a thick off white head. Aroma has strong coffee notes, roastedness, hops. Flavor has coffee, roastedness, citrus notes, some mild vanilla notes in finish. Almost black IPA touch to this one. Pleasant.

500ml bottle, trade with Skinnyviking. Smoke when opened. Fawn-coloured tophead, scattered lacing, body black as pitch, Mid-sweet dark malty aroma, nicely roasted. Slightly roasted dark malty flavours with impacts of dark chocolate and a backdrop of malty bitterness towards the ending. Medium bodied. Soft on the swallow. Decent porter (hotel room, Copenhagen 14.05.2016).
