Sour ale with - rather unlikely - herbs, at ACBF. Snow white, quickly dissolving, thin head, hazy straw blonde robe with vaguely greenish tinge. Aroma of indeed mashed lemon vervain leaves (including their ’lemon-scented soapiness’), less so of the ’green’ qualities I associate with lemonbalm (a plant I’ve been familiar with since my earliest childhood) and even less bayleaf, but some fresh sage leaf does come through; other impressions involve green tea, salted apricots, chalk, lime zest, sourdough. Vivid fruity onset, unripe green lemon, sweet pineapple and pear, gooseberry, spritzy carbo, lots of lime sourness but no acidic puckering effects, rather a gentle drying tartness accentuated by the lemon vervain and lemon balm especially in the end, where green, aromatic, ethereal herb qualities rise up, over a soft bready malt middle; finishes very chalky, with ongoing lemony sourness, very refreshing. Utterly weird concoction, the chalkiness was a bit much for me but does remind a bit of lemonbalm; I can imagine something rather daring like this will sharply divide opinions, but it does appeal to the amateur botanist in me and brings back long-lived memories of fragrant garden plants.

Draught Small white head, stable, over hazy pineapplejuice coloured beer. Rosehips, toilet soap, lemonbalm, pine, lavender. Taste HAS pineapple (ester), again lavender and lemonbalm. Light body, but gristslick, low carbonation. A bit strong on the herbs, but I still like it.

Keg at BD Mighty Boosh, 09/02/17. Hazed orange with a decent off white cap. Nose is pissy citric shreds, weeds, straw, lemon vibes, rotting melon, damp wood, acidic flicker. Taste comprises herbal and menthol notes, pissy lemon shreds, wood must, vinegar tang, bitter citric rinds, damp hay. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close with an acidic burn. Decent easy drinking sour for the ABV.

Aroma is tart sharp zesty lemon, citric acid sour, hint of spicy vinegar, doughy wheat, grapefruit juice. Flavour is composed of tart lemon juice, spicy sharp citrus fruit, cif long, lacto sour, lemon sherbet . Clean tangy sourness. Palate is crisp, tart and refreshing, moderate carbonation. Really refreshing. ,

Bottle at home in London - sourced from the brewery taproom. Pours unclear orange-gold with a moderate, creamy white head. Lovely aroma, with ample tangy lemon notes, understated wheat, faint grass. Light sweet flavour with a really compelling, quenching lemony tartness, relaxed acidity, lemonade, faint hay, a little lactic bite. Light bodied with delicate carbonation. Very clean and quenching in the finish, with more tart lemon, a little citrus peel zest, mild orange sherbet, just a touch of wheaty sweetness, very slight herbal notes. Wonderfully drinkable. This would make for just about the perfect hot-weather crusher.
