A very small first batch of Coconut Milk Stout, strong and insidious enough to be referred to the same-name classical spaghetti western while sweet and charming enough to resemble the Taste of Paradise.

At libf 2017. Thnx for sharing ! Pours black , small white head. Smell is burnt wood, ashes, burnt meat. Extremely bad. Like an ashtray that hasnt been cleaned in forever. Burmt sigarettes. Taste is plastic, plus all of the above aspects. Try one of the worst things ive ever had. It did not steal its name, this one DID kill al lot of happyness in me.

At LIBF, a (heavy) milk stout with added coconut flavour, made in Russia by a new craft brewery situated in Saint-Petersburg. Thin, brownish beige head over a black beer with hazy burgundy rim. Aroma of indeed coconut (coconut milk and coconut flesh), hazelnuts, almonds, walnut liqueur, milk powder, chocolate milk made with water rather than milk, cookies. Sweet coconut flavour right from the start, some hazelnut and almond notes, hint of fig perhaps with a deeply situated sourishness underneath, very caramelly and creamy middle, clear lactose creaminess, nutty with a toasted ending; even the milk sugar creaminess cannot hide the fact that this feels lighter and thinner than close to 8% but the warming alcohol effect in the end still reminds you of the fact that this is a fairly big beer. It effectuates a peppery accent more so than hops, while all the way through, the coconut flavour dominates. Bit of a one trick pony actually, needs a bit more depth and complexity, but I do love coconut and this one delivers it - more so than the Bounty candy it refers to, really.

Taste is awful, plastic, chemical, medicinal, burned charcoal, burned coconut (is that possible), so bad chemical, burned, burned plastic,... Body is chemical, plastic, burned plastic,.. How did they mess-up a coconut stout this much?

1/VII/21 - on tap, shared @ Bar Beenhouwer (Gent), BB: n/a (2021-xxx)

Clear dark deep brown beer, small creamy beige head, unstable, dissipates quickly, non adhesive. Aroma: very malty, lots of chocolate, nice, roast, some vanilla, coconut. MF: soft carbon, medium to full body. Taste: lots of chocolate, very malty, grains, hay, sugary and sweet, some coffee, coconut, little bitter. Aftertaste: very roasted, chocolate notes, malty, some alcohol, caramel, sugary, more coconut, little sourish. Nice, but not great. Could’ve been a bit more bold, have a little more character.

Bottle sample @ LIBF’17, thanks to the RB-InBev Belgian crew for the share.

Black with thin head. Aroma and flavour are quite boozy and sweet. Lots of bittersweet dark malts. Luckily, no obvious coconut.
