Symbiosis the cooperation between two organisms for mutual benefit. In this example, Vibrant Forest and Unity Brew Co getting giddy over sugars and spice and everything nice. We blended aromatic malts to create a complex grist and fermented it on an Unity's Abbey yeast. Orange peel, raisins, and nutmeg went into the boil to enrich this broth with all the flavours of the season.

Can. What possessed me to buy a spiced Belgian Dubbel? Light haze on this deep amber beer, small pale tan head. Light palate, semi dry, decent fine minerally crispness. A modest sweet and tangy caramel supports a Smorgasbord of fruits, a little bright and fresh citrus and berry fruits with a big underlay of ripe fruits, prune, raisan and ripe citrus peel. A little spice adds dimension, feels like soft cinnamon and coriander. Light finish. Okay, no need to second guess myself, this is complex and flavoursome.

Can from Steel Tank, Chandler's Ford. Rich aroma - dark fruit, nuts, marzipan, some booze and malts. Dark and glistening. Brown tint in the light. Creamy off-white head concedes defeat and quickly retreats. Vinous berry sourness with a burnt bitter core that comes to the fore. Light bodied. Thin. Fizzy carbonation. Long somewhat astringent finish. Enjoyable but seems a bit light weight.

Canned. Hazy nut brown, brief head. Citric acid and cabbage up front. Sweet and sour with sharp mouthfeel and excessive carbonation. Aluminium and citric acid. Like licking a lamp post drenched in butter and citric acid - at -40C. Undrinkable.

440ml can. Pours very dark reddy brown with a big beige head dissipating quickly. Aroma is malty, spicy, nutmeg, banana. Taste of sweet malts, banana, raisin, sugar, spices, don't think I'm getting much orange peel. Medium body and carbonation.

Can from Boxbeers. Hazy very dark brown with a small beige head. Aroma is sweet, malty, caramel, dark sugar, yeasty and light spicy. Flavor is quite sweet and light bitter. Sweet finish. A bit on the sweet side, but not bad for an English attempt at a Dubbel. 010219
