Inspired by London's most famous beer style, Fuller's imperial-strength take on this 19th-century favourite. With a complex malt make-up, this beer offers the smoky, mocha flavours of our classic London Porter. The addition of black treacle to the brew brings with it a sumptuous layer of velvety caramel, which nicely offsets the hop bitterness. This Limited edition beer is brewed to mature, with its flavours developing over time. Bottle conditioned, a natural sediment will form - so store upright and pour carefully.

Bottle from the Fuller's webshop. It pours darkest brown to black with a deep tan head, which dissipates. The aroma is bitter - sweet, dark chocolate character, ganache, oily, thick, gateaux, cookie dough, rich roasted malt, toasty, charred, spicy, dried fruits, raisin, fruit cake, some umami, liquorice and reisin chocolate. The taste is dry, bitter - sweet character, layers of dark roasted malt, thick and rich, espresso coffee, cacao, chocolate covered coffee beans, dried fruits, fruit cake, spice, earth, warming alcohol, toothy, umami and liquorice with a roasty finish. Fulsome body and moderate carbonation. Fuller's strong ales are definitely their best. Flavourful, balanced and dangerously drinkable.

Can from Brewery Webshop; pitch black pour with a thin light tan head, aroma has sweet chocolate and a hint of vanilla, taste has slight liquorice, chocolate, some robust malts, dark fruits, a fine Christmas morn drink.

Bottle from Vinens Verden. Black with a lasting off-white head. Dark malty aroma with toffee, chocolate, molasses, dried fruit and a touch of port wine. Sweetish dark flavour of toffee, prunes, sweet licorice, molasses and treacle. There's little sign of hops, but the roasted character provides a fine balance to the beer. I wouldn't call it an imperial Fuller's London Porter, but it's an extraordinary beer in its own right.

Bottle: Very deep ruby-amber coloured, presumably hazy, quickly diminishing smaller tanned head, pretty solid sweet fruity and toasty-malty nose, raisins well detectable, molasses as well, presumably some woody traces; solid sweet and less bitter flavour, full bodied and a bit sticky; a mild warming alcohol-burn shows up in the sweet and lingering toasty-fruity finish, which is balanced by a very delicate bitterness. Very good, but just mediocre by Fuller's standards...
