The dramatic image of the Four Horsemen as delivered to us in “The Apocalypse of John” offers itself as the illustration of NISSOS Red, Double Ale, Abbey-style beer. A contemporary interpretation of one of Europe’s most historic beer styles, developped in the early 19th century.
Sweet wort from selected barley and rye malts is fermented with Belgian yeast. A second fermentation reveals a typical estery aroma with banana, raisin and clove notes and a sweet, spicy flavour of candy and fruits.

Sweet dusty dried red fruity Aroma where it seems yeast and malts both have a role. Almost like a mild quad. Quite sweet, too close to industrials like grimbergen ambree , however, this one has a bit more of the funkiness I associate with good Belgians. Flavor is sweet malty with a fruity touch, think leffe brown, bit better than that. Clearly drinkable, better than many non belgian attempts.

330 ml bottle. Pours a dark reddish mahogany color with light head. Aromas of candied fruit, caramel, orange peel and soft toasted malts. Flavors follow same; fruity and sweet. Nice find in the Greek Islands.

Bottle picked up from Σκλαβενιτης/Sklavenitis nr Argos, Peloponnese, Greece and consumed at Camping Bekas Beach, Epidaurus, Greece 5th September 2021. Pours hazy, or murky brown with an off white head. A little bit of banana toffee, sweetness shows, soft, a little bit chewy, actually pretty decent.

Hazy brown with a tan head. Aroma of malt, caramel, cardboard and yeast. Flavour is above moderate sweet and moderate bitter. Medium bodied with soft carbonation.
