This Peppermint Victory at Sea is a festive take on our popular Imperial Porter. We took our trademark robust porter brewed with Caffe Calabria coffee and vanilla and added a dose of refreshing peppermint. The trio of flavors play perfectly on your palate – the brew’s sweet roastiness balances nicely with a cool, minty finish. You might even call it a breath of fresh beer.

Pours deep mahogany into a snifter. Mocha head with medium retention recedes to skim surface. Dark chocolate and mild peppermint aromas. Medium bodied and dry with dark chocolate upfront turning to peppermint and espresso in the lasting finish.

Growler shared by Jack, thanks! Pours near black with a fluffy dark brown head that dissipates slowly to the edges. Aroma has earthy dark grains and coffee with a bit of peppermint and some must. Flavor is coffee forward with earthy dark grains and a hint of peppermint in the finish.

Draught at Lulus, 1/15/16.
Dark black/deep mahogany body is of indeterminable clarity. Tan head slowly fades to cover.
Unlike the peanut butter version, and not terribly surprisingly, the peppermint is much more prominent/distinct. It’s lighter in the nose and complements the dark chocolate, coffee and vanilla notes. No alcohol noted in the nose, impressively and no flaws.
Peppermint quite prominent in the flavor. Certainly not overdone, but nor is it subtle. Probably a bit more of it than I’d prefer, given that it doesn’t come across terribly integrated. It’s just sort of the Victory at Sea and then also some peppermint flavor. The beer is already on the more dry side, with tons of roastiness, coffee, dark chocolate and such. So the very dry, herbal peppermint doesn’t really add anything to the balance. Thankfully, the beer has a strong enough maltiness, with sweet caramel-vanilla and a fairly tight carbonation, leading to a medium-full body and texture. Drinkable, but I vastly prefer it without the peppermint. Would need a lot more richness of malt and some "fudgey" imperial stout like character to really mesh.

Peppermint doesn’t add anything good to this. Takes away some of the roast in fact and dominates most of the flavor. Some roast. Pours brown with ok head and lacing. Bottle shared at tasting.

22oz bottle pours a watery black with some cloudy, white head. Nose has mint and green bell pepper, malt, toast. Flavor has more jalapeno/green bell pepper, pencil lead, mint. Dry finish. To me, the peppermint comes across more as bell pepper, but that’s obviously just me.

Bottle. Clear dark brown color. Aroma of cocoa, coffee with subtle mint. Taste is roasty and the mint enters in the finish, nicely incorporated. Very tasty.

Bottle from East Derry Store Solid black color with a huge frothy bubbly mocha head. Big peppermint on the nose makes it hard to find anything else in there. The flavor is huge on the mint as well with a roasty coffee earthy light chocolate to counter. I thought the mint was a bit sharp at first and clashed a bit with the coffee, but once I settled into this I really enjoyed it.
