This Peppermint Victory at Sea is a festive take on our popular Imperial Porter. We took our trademark robust porter brewed with Caffe Calabria coffee and vanilla and added a dose of refreshing peppermint. The trio of flavors play perfectly on your palate – the brew’s sweet roastiness balances nicely with a cool, minty finish. You might even call it a breath of fresh beer.

Cotteridge 2 tasting. Black beer lasting tan head. Chocolate spicy aroma. Dry powder chocolate. It’s a bit grainy. Dark chocolate. Really dark chocolate. Pretty good. Bournville chocolate.

22 oz bottle. A black pour with a tan head. Minty chocolate aroma. Flavor balances the dark chocolate and coffee roastiness of the porter with the minty note. It works pretty well, though personally I wouldn’t mind some more of the mint.

Sampled on draft at Tapped this beer poured a black color with a medium sized foamy tan head that left decent lacing. The aroma was mint, chocolate and roasty malts. The flavor was Bitter and roasty with a biting mint presence and dry floral hops. Long finish. Medium body. Ok.

Draft at Sunset Grill. Ok, it smells nice. Mild coffee grounds, light chocolate and peppermint. That is where the pleasant notes stop.

Ok, imagine you brush your teeth with Crest toothpaste and then tried to drink a coffee Porter... Yeah, I’ll say that again Crest toothpaste mixed with a Porter. What is up with these ratings? Did Ballast Point pay people to rate this beer highly?? I just don’t get it. Ok, ok if you like to drink toothpaste, you will really enjoy this. I am happy I didn’t buy a bottle of this so... I guess that is worth something?

22 ounce bottle into snifter, bottled on 12/14/2015. Pours fairly pitch black color with a 2 finger fairly dense and fluffy khaki head with great retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings around the glass. Aromas of big dark roasted coffee, chocolate, cocoa, caramel, cool mint, toast, dark bread, light char, and herbal/roasted earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of dark/roast/bready malt, coffee, vanilla, mint, and earthy hop notes; with great strength. Taste of big dark roasted coffee, chocolate, cocoa, caramel, cool mint, toast, dark bread, light char, and herbal/roasted earthiness. Moderate herbal/roast/char bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of coffee, chocolate, cocoa, caramel, mint, toast, dark bread, char, and herbal/roasted earthiness on the finish for a while. Damn nice complexity, robustness, and balance of roast/bready malt, coffee, vanilla, mint, and earthy hop flavors; with a nice roasted bitter/sweet balance an no astringent flavors after the finish. Light-moderate dryness from roast and hop bitterness as well. Medium carbonation and medium-full body; with a very smooth, moderately creamy/silky, and sticky/chalky balanced mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with minimal warming lingering after the finish. Overall this is an excellent imperial porter style. All around great complexity, robustness, and balance of roast/bready malt, coffee, vanilla, mint, and earthy hop flavors; and very smooth and easy to sip on for the big ABV. This has a fair amount of assertive bitter hop and roast character fresh, just like the base beer; but I can see it improving with more time, just like the base beer does in my experience. A very enjoyable offering regardless.

Tap at Rattle and Hum West, New York. Colour is black with slightly brownish white head. Aromas and flavours: Coffee, dark chocolate, mint, spices and roasted malts. Original is much better.

Charcoal, mint like irish creme aroma. Black, headless. Very, very minty, charred oak, burned toast, french roast coffee. Medium body, moderate, bitter. Intense, but too heavy handed with the peppermint. Base beer has too much char bitterness. Not very enjoyable.

Draught @ Milk and Hops. Inky black with large foamy beige head, faint roasted malt aroma, medium carbonation, sweetish mocha taste with peppermint and alcohol undertones, full body, long bitter roasted malt finish. The roasted malt flavor has all but obliterated the peppermint.
