An autumn and winter seasonal available in cask and bottle. A classic London Porter with sweet malt character from seven different malts and adjuncts. As you would expect it’s a dark almost black beer from the roasted barley, black and chocolate malts. Rye flakes and wheat malt add a thick creamy head. Hops are Columbus for bittering and Perle for late addition imparts floral spicy herbal and fruity tones.

Bottle at home in London - picked up at the London Brewers’ Market. Pours clear, deep brown with a frothy, tan head. The aroma holds light roast, dry milk chocolate. Light sweet flavour with quite restrained roast, some dark malt character - a bit of cocoa, some burnt earth, ripening berries. Light bodied with energetic and massaging carbonation. Reasonably well balanced to close things out, with more dry and lightly bitter cocoa, subtle roast, dried berries, mellow earthy bitterness. This is nothing to get excited about, but it does make for easy drinking.

(Cask at Cock Tavern, Hackney, London, 26 Nov 2015) Black colour with frothy, beige head. Malty, roasted nose with coffee, chocolate and dark fruit. Malty, roasted taste with notes of chocolate, coffee, dark fruit, caramel and a balanced roasty bitterness. Medium body, with a touch of sweetness. Tasty and well balanced porter. Quite nice.

Cask gravity at Croydon Craft beer fest. It pours darkest brown with a small beige head. The nose is rich, liquorice, coffee grounds, decent roast and coffee cake. The taste is smooth, rich roast, good deal of coffee, mild sweetness, toasty stuff, lightly charred wood, umami and a touch of chewy with a dry, toasty finish. Medium body and fine carbonation. Rather flavousome. Good one.
