26/VII/16 - 15cl can @ home - BB: 3/IX/16 (2016-787) Thanks to my dad for the can!

Cloudy lemonade yellow like fluid, aery fizzy white head, dissipates while pouring, just like soda. Aroma: artificial lemonade and something I suppose has to pass for cactus. MF: ok carbon, medium body. Taste: very sweet, bit sourish, soft bitterness, vegetal touch. Aftertaste: sweet and sugary, lemonade, some citric acidity, and some weird soapy flavour, which I guess must the cactus. I have to admit I'm not familial with eating decorative plants. :p

33cl can @ Finissons ces pétroles tasting, merci Antoine. Dorée trouble, Presque paille, col blanc léger. Nez assez chimique, citornné rappelant un chewing-gum, rétro fin de drêche. Palais est léger surfeit niveau fruité, indiquant pas mal d’ajout sucré snas vraiment un apport anturel marquee. Grains concassés, restant cependant léger et facile à boire. Rien rétrouvé niveau cactus si ce n’est un côté vert fruité.

The newest addition to this Radler range, heavily supported with television commercials and the like. Radlers never meant anything here until recently, when Heineken, the owner of the brand since 2008, decided to force them upon the Belgian consumer using his familiar lager brand, likely inspired by the recent commercial success of Radler lemonade-beers in the Netherlands. Thin and loose, off-white head disappearing quickly into almost nothing - but retaining a very thin rim on the edge of the glass, revealing that this concoction does contain a form of beer; hazy pale yellow blonde with lime greenish hue, looking almost exactly like Fanta Orange or something alike. Artificial lemonade aroma as expected, containing things like (strong) Fanta Lemon and ascorbic acid (industrial citrus flavor) in general, sweetened but still chalky children’s medicine, industrial pineapple or generic tropical fruit juice with an overload of refined sugar and a distinctive and strong soap aroma (as in lemon-scented air freshener if such a thing exists) - distinctive because it yields some kind of faraway tropical aroma I cannot quite put my finger on, probably (but irrelevantly) representing the cactus aspect. Needless to say, near to nothing even remotely ’beery’ is to be found, though with a lot of sniffing and patience (and letting it warm up), a very vague whiff of graininess is detectable, on a ’microscopic’ level. Unsurprisingly very strong lemonade taste, Fanta Lemon again with almost the same amount of sugary sweetness, which makes my front teeth hurt - and keeps cloying all the way through. Ascorbic acidity brings a very artificial lemon and orange flavor amidst this onslaught of refined white sugar and I do get that ’tropically’ flavored soap aspect again, which, if I remember well, was not present in the other two Maes Radlers - I guess this is the only thing that makes this a tad more interesting, so I’ll grant it a slightly higher score just for that. A vague chalky flavor resides in the ’finish’ along with a very faint hint of, again, graininess, reminding you of the fact that it still contains pale lager beer in the most remote, airy form imaginable; I think I can even taste an extremely vague reminder of hops at the back, but this could just as well be my imagination playing tricks with me. I will never understand the point of all these new Radlers: you have to be truly skilled as a beer person to find anything remotely beery in them, so why not just drink some sweet soda instead? Well, I don’t like sweet sodas either, so this kind of ’beers’ is completely lost on me anyway.
