Can from a local bottle shop. Aroma is piney hop with malt, some caramel, pine resin, touch of ripe orange and grapefruit. Flavour is on the sweet side with a medium bitterness. Body is medium. Nicely piney, but lacks some fruitiness for balance.

Westcoast ipa can, 7.5%, recipe might have changed if it was 6.5 before. Slight hazy amber, big foamy tan head, nose of huge caramel and resinous piney citrus. Flavor is too sweet, like a caramel Christmas cookie, could use less malty and more hop bitterness - still tasty though. Nice aromas.

23 January 2022. At Hal 16 (Dok Brewing). Shared with the lovely Anke.
Hazy yellow, stable, frothy, white head. Aroma of pineapple, pear, melon, grapefruit peel, lime, honey. Taste has sweetish pineapple & melon, sourish lime, bitter mandarin peel and grapefruit over a honeyish malt base with soft onion-spicy accents (but not dank). Dry, piney hoppy finish, quite 'fresh' citrusy yet also grapefruity bitter. Medium body, oily texture, average carbonation. Pretty enjoyable.

West Coast IPA by Rotterdam’s Kaapse Brouwers, from tap at Dok. Moussy, frothy, cobweb-lacing, off-white, stable head on a hazy peach blonde beer with deeper amber-orange hue. Aroma of pomelo, lychee, tropical orchids, biscuit cake, Thai jasmin tea, lavender oil, Turkish delight, rusk, guava, freshly crushed black peppercorns. Crisp onset, very fizzy, bit stingy even, cleanish lychee and guava aspects, unripe mango and bitter citrus pith, oily body; rusk-like malts, bit bready, with in the end a long, rooty, resinous hop bitterness weirdly (and inappropriately) combined with a strong ‘tropical’ fragrance retronasally, jasmin- and tea-like, citrus blossoms rather than dry citrus peel. Weirdly perfumey, not conveying the old West Coast feel in aroma in spite of the classic New World hops showcased here, with only that long, oily bitterness being present… Too bad: I love a good West Coast IPA, but most attempts recently made in Europe are incapable of properly capturing what is essentially the not so distant past of postmodern IPA – and especially from Kaapse, I was expecting a more ‘historically accurate’ rendition. Perhaps somewhat ironically, the Tourette guys from Ghent nailed this concept way better than the much larger and experienced Kaapse… A bit disappointing, especially because I keep good memories of several other Kaapse beers.

Can. Orange copper pour. Aroma of herbal pine, buttery grapefruit, caramel and malt. Taste has bitter herbal pine, caramel, malt, sticky resinous hop and bitter floral hops. It's a bit flat, little more carbo would have made this more refreshing, but I like the west coast piney bitter flavors.
