Black as night and every bit Imperial, this RIS was originally launched to tremendous accolades. Aged in Whiskey barrels, this barrel aged version meshes the rich chocolates and the coffee-like aromatics with the sweet whiskey nose and drying character of the oak. Slightly behind on the palate are the hops, held in restraint by the wonderfully full mouth-feel and broad flavors brought on by the perfect blend of so many malted barley varieties. Ready to enjoy now and perfect for extended cellaring.

Bottle from Beer Republic. Black with a light brown head. Aroma is sweet, roasted malt, chocolate and whisky. Flavor is very sweet and rather bitter. Dry and moderate bitter finish with a little warming alcohol. Oily and soft. 291221

Fles gedeeld door Benzai. Diep donkerbruin tot zwart bier met matig schuim dat snel weg trekt. Aroma van chocolade, hout en vanille. Smaak is vol, (donker-)fruitig, druif, pruim en eikenhoutig en vanille. Nasmaak is bitter en blijft lang hangen.

Almost black with lasting thin head. Burnt bitter dark malts. Coffee beans. Lots of bourbon whiskey sweetness. Well balanced. Rich.

Refrigerated 0.5 brown bottle poured into a snifter. Black small off-white head. Aroma is roasted malt, medium body, medium carbonation, and little lacing. Taste is roasted malt, oak, whiskey, and a little cocoa. Not even close to being as good as MOAB.

From the bottle. Virtually black with a lingering, creamy head. Aroma of licorice, chocolate and whiskey. Smokey and peaty. Taste is mildly bitter, with the whisky notable throughout but in harmony with the other flavors. Body is full, carbonation is mild and the beer has a nice, creamy feel in the mouth. Warming at the finish. A good one for this style but I‘ve had better.
