Black as night and every bit Imperial, this RIS was originally launched to tremendous accolades. Aged in Whiskey barrels, this barrel aged version meshes the rich chocolates and the coffee-like aromatics with the sweet whiskey nose and drying character of the oak. Slightly behind on the palate are the hops, held in restraint by the wonderfully full mouth-feel and broad flavors brought on by the perfect blend of so many malted barley varieties. Ready to enjoy now and perfect for extended cellaring.

Aus der Flasche im 2017-10 getrunken. Dieses IStout BA Whiskey Cask wirkt durch ein sehr überraschend schwachen Körper sehr dünn und man würde auf ein einfaches Stout und nicht auf eine Imperial Version tippen. Die Kakao- und Kaffeearomen sind recht ausbalanciert, doch der Einfluß vom Barrel Aged ist so gar nicht zu entdecken. Am Ende wirkt es trotz seinen schwachen Körpers recht alkoholisch. Es bleibt ein sehr schönes Stout mit deutlichen Potential nach oben - sehr schade!

Shared 750ml bottle. Pours almost black with a beige head. Aroma and flavors of roasted malt, chocolate, whiskey, oak. vanilla, coffee notes. Whiskey is very subdued, which is a large plus. Very good.

Draft. A- Chocolate, mocha, subtle sharpie. A- Black color, black liquid, beige head. T- Sharpies, chocolate, mild bitterness, roasty, mocha, alcohol. P- Full body, average texture, average carbonation, slightly boozy finish. O- Pretty good but a tad boozy. Loads of chocolate and mocha throughout. Can’t believe it’s taken me this long to rate this, especially since I’ve had all it’s variants.

750ml bottle. Jet black colour with average to huge, frothy to creamy, mostly lasting, well lacing, tan head. Whiskey aroma, notes of leather, oak, vanilla, chocolately dark malty background. Taste is slightly sweet, chocolately dark malty, hints of treacle, integrated, mild, slightly dry whiskey notes of oak, vanilla, leather; relatively light body, dangerously drinkable, in no way tacky palate. Not overly complex, rather focussed, harmonious and balanced.

12,000 beers and no end in sight. Sample from 2012 and 2011 bottles at the "Black Friday 02" tasting on 11/25/2016. Black pour with a medium foamy khaki head that diminishes steadily to a film. Patchy lacing on the glass. Aroma of malt, oak and dark chocolate. Full-bodied with flavors of charred malt, oaky bourbon and bittersweet chocolate. The finish is oaky with a bourbon and malt aftertaste. Good beer all around.

pitch black color. Big vanilla bean, dark chocolate molasses, oak and bourbon in the nose. Full on. Tons of dark chocolate, treacles, bourbon, oak, slightly sour mouth. So well integrated and put together. Fantastic lingering dark chocolate oak and bourbon finish.

Bottle: Pours black with a small, dark tan head. Whiskey, wood, chocolate aroma. Ashy bitter....dark chocolate, coffee ground flavour. Great balanced alcohol warmth...drinks very smoothly....huge fudge notes as it warms.
