Black as night and every bit Imperial, this RIS was originally launched to tremendous accolades. Aged in Whiskey barrels, this barrel aged version meshes the rich chocolates and the coffee-like aromatics with the sweet whiskey nose and drying character of the oak. Slightly behind on the palate are the hops, held in restraint by the wonderfully full mouth-feel and broad flavors brought on by the perfect blend of so many malted barley varieties. Ready to enjoy now and perfect for extended cellaring.

Bottle from Binnys, Chicago. Bought in February 2016. My first one from this Brewery. Black with a creamy tan head. Sweetish with bourbon, dark chocolate, oak, light coffee and some roasted malt. Kind of smooth and with a long finish. Tasty.

Pitch black with a tan head. A rich whiskey and malty chocolate. The flavor is cocoa powder and rich malty whiskey. An incredibly smooth barrel aged beer that was really easy to drink though I heard it was better on tap.

Bottle thanks to Brian! Pours cloudy mahogany, small beige head, good lacing. Aroma is roasty, coca, pine. Flavor is light plus sweet, medium plus bitter, chocolate, pine cones, hints of whiskey. Pretty damn hot. Medium plus body, creamy mouthfeel. I honestly thought this was a black IPA.
