A festive stout with subtle roast character that plays well with fruity and slightly tart notes from the cranberry. Sorachi Ace hops, which there are plenty of in this beer, gives hints of vanilla and coconut.

Bottle from BottleDog, Holborn. Pours almost black with a long lasting beige head, leaving good lacing. Aroma of cranberry and chocolate, but also distinctly and curiously plasticine like. Medium sweetness, and a slightly sharp bitterness. Medium body, quite lively carbonation. Finish is dry, with cranberry sharpness/bitterness. Slightly unsure on what to make of it overall...

Bottle at home. Bought at Odd Bins, London Bridge. The cranberry comes through in the aroma. Alongside coffee and dark chocolate. Dark with a chestnut tint. Blotchy light beige head. Medium bitter. Sour finish the cranberry really does become evident. Light bodied. Soft. Astringent long finish. Interesting in terms of the cranberries, even if not an amazing stout in itself.

Bottle from Oddbins Beer Shop, Blackheath. Pours black with a beige head. Licorice, dark fruits and chocolate dominate the nose. The flavour is smoky malt, dark fruits and more licorice. Long bitter linger in the finish. Not bad.

Cask handpump at The University Club, Oxford, Wednesday 14th December 2016 To all intents and purposes this is black, ok it’s probably a very dark brown but it’s near enough black with a slim off-white sticky head. A fruity stout the cranberry really gives this a tang. This is in great nick, fresh, fruity, tangy but it’s still a stout, a very fruity stout but a stout nonetheless A7 A4 T8 P4 Ov14 3.7

Bottle at home picked up from the Garden City Brewery. A nut / mahogany brown coloured pour with a lasting fine tan head. Aroma is dry roast, earthy, hint of smoke and tangy woodland berries. Flavour is composed of dry roasted barley, toasted bread, little bitter liquorice, hair, woody spices, nutmeg. Palate is dry and powdery, highish carbonation, dry woody finish. Not a huge fan.

Pitch black, huge creamy beige head, good retention, good lacing. Aroma toasted malts, dark fruits, light cocoa, liquorice. Taste medium sweet and bitter, malty, chocolate, cardboard. Dry bittersweet aftertaste, lingering chocolate, light peppery notes, medium body, oily to watery texture, soft carbonation, quite nice.

Draft at Euston Tap. Dark brown/bkack with minimal head. Lots of the normal stout elements, not much from the adjunct fruit. Minor sweetening from the cranberries, but a ll else is a straight up stout.
