500ml bottle. Quasi black colour with average to huge, frothy, fairly lasting, minimally lacing, beige head. Chocolately, dark malty aroma, hints of couverture, a fruity touch of red berries, a minimal touch of leather. Taste is dry, roasty dark malty, slightly chocolately, a touch of red berries, hints of leather.

Bottle at home in London - sourced. Pours clear, deep reddish brown with a tight, creamy khaki head. The aroma holds mild ashy roast, very slightly tangy berries, suggestions of cocoa. Light sweet flavour with subtle bittersweet baking cocoa, some charred malts and earth, leathery berries. Light bodied with average carbonation. Finishes with further earthy bitterness, faint raisin and dried cranberry, old leather, bitter chocolate. Drinks pretty well, although I’d say it’s somewhat one-dimensional.

Tap at Billie’s Bier Kafétaria. Dense, thick, frothy, lacing, pale yellowish beige head, very dark ruby brown colour, as good as black. Aroma of roasted pine nuts, blackberry, pepper, rancid butter, toasted bread, balsamic vinegar, hazelnuts, buttermilk and cranberries well-integrated into this whole. Meaty umami onset with a very subdued fig-like sweetishness underneath as well as deep, lightly balsamic-like, soft sourishness; softish carbo, smooth but thick, ’oily’ mouthfeel, pleasant nutty, roasted and bitter chocolate-like maltiness, much more bitter than sweet but gently so, slightly metallic, nice peppery and herbal hop bitterness in the end, dry, with that cranberry sourishness peeping through. Pleasant fruit stout, in which the cranberries are nothing more than an extra accent to the whole, bringing a kind of creamy tartness to it.

Bottle. Trembling Madness Drinks Shop, York. Dark, reddy brown. Creamy tan head. Earthy, fruity malts. Get a little savoury smoke. Hint of Sorachi. Taste is earthy, liquorice root bitter. Some stone fruit bitterness. Good body at the ABV. Roasty, earthy bitter finish. Liked this a lot more than I thought I might.

Tap @ In De Wildeman. Black color. Dense beige head with reasonable retention. Aroma’s: roast, ground coffee, with light fruity sourness retronasal. Flavor is roasted, light bitter. Light bodied, not thin. Finishes with more roast and quite bitter. Didn’t get much of the cranberries (not sure if that’s a bad thing), pretty classic style stout.

Black with creamy head. Flavour is a nice combination of the fruity sweetness of cranberry and a roasted bitter finish.
