Bottle from Fresh Fields Croydon. It pour black with a small light tan head. The nose is toasty, earthy roast, coffee, umami, liquorice, tobacco and cacao nibs The taste is quite dry, bitter, earthy, ashy, umami, liquorice, some astringency, coffee, dull smoke and some red berry with a dry, earthy finish. Light - medium body and fine carbonation. Cranberry is not overly noticeable. I like aspects of this beer but it is too dry and light in my opinion. OK I suppose.

Bottle from Cotteridge Wines; dark chestnut brown pour with a big creamy light tan head, aroma has roast malt, chocolate and some tart red berries, taste has dark chocolate, a hint of smoke, tart cranberries, roast malts, some liquorice, decent creamy mouthfeel, nice.

Opaque brown beer, a tidy tan head. Palate is light and fairly crisp. Thin dark malts bring a reasonable amount of dark chocolate. Something like an oaky sweetness emerges. Nice cranberry and red berry fruits, tangy. Crispy finish with dark chocolate lingering on. Christmas stouts are usually as much fun as kick in the nuts, this one bucks that trend.
