This Dark Lager has a smooth creamy head. The toasted malt and caramel flavours as well as the fragrant hops present in the aftertaste give this beer its outstanding nature. These traditional Dark Beers were once very popular in the cities of Middle Europe.

Clear amber brown colour, small frothy beige head, mostly diminishing, thin layer remains, good lacing. Aroma dominated by lactic smell, sour apples, light caramel, brown sugar. Rather thin taste is medium sweet, slightly bitter, sourish, caramelish. Medium body, watery texture, soft carbonation, aftertaste is flat sweet and sour, all signs of infection, it’s a pity.

Sampled 330 ml. bottle @ Modeste 2015. Deep amber, reddish, small tanned head. Nose is hugely metallic, watery, herbal, watery herbs, ditch water. Taste is herbal, weeds, odd herbal plants, iron, ditch water. Body is watery, flat, iron. By far the weakest of the 5 beers that I tried from these guys at Modeste 2015.

At Modeste in Berchem near Antwerp. Thick, creamy, pale beige head over a hazy brownish burgundy coloured beer. Aroma of caramel, burnt brown sugar, ’natural’ iron, dried leaves and prunes, toasted bread. Taste begins with malt fruitiness, accent of dried apple peel, soft caramelly maltiness, thin body as expected from the style, smooth, sweetish with a toasted addition in the end as well as mild, deep, earthy hops, softly bittering. Caramelly maltiness is the star in this show and that is what you should expect from a Münchener Dunkel. Not really impressive, but very decent for what it pretends to be and well crafted technically speaking.

330ml bottle. Clear, ruby red glowing, mahogany colour with average, thick, frothy to creamy, widely lasting, moderately lacing, beige head. Dark malty aroma with sweet-ish hints of malt lozenge, grainy inclusions with a touch of spelt. Taste is slightly dry, dark chocolately malty, a touch of malt lozenge and caramel, subtle swetness, minimally grassy, hoppy overtones. Very nice, cautious but decent chocolate note.

Bottle split at LKS ’Beers of London’ Tasting, high up thanks to Kenny 10/12/14. Chestnut brown with moderate beige spotting and edgework. Nose is plastic, dark fruits, earthy, hint of red berries, glue. Taste improves ... just, caramel, light spice, dark fruit rinds, bitter roast tang, dates. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close. So so.

Bottle shared in London. Thanks to Mitch. Pours clear amber-ruby with a creamy tan head. The nose has lots of dried fruits, berries, toasted grains, bread. Medium sweet flavor, further dried berries, earth, faint leather. Light bodied with average carbonation. Finishes with dried and leathery fruits, toasted sugars, earth. So so.

0,33 l bottle, bought at Grebhan´s, Bremen. Great printed label art design. Dark red brown in the glass, one finger light tanned head. Dark malt and a little bit hop on the nose. Starts with roasted malt, low licorice, grain, later a tendence to coffee. Some hints of hop. Low carbonation. All in a smooth easy to drink manner. Nice!
