[9/26/15] Bottle sample at Borefts Beer Festival 2015 in Bodegraven. Thanks everyone who shared bottles! Clear deep amber. Aroma of malt, caramel, a bit of fruitiness. Sweetish flavor with malt, caramel, toast, and a drier finish, mildly bitterish. Medium-bodied.

HEYY!! I got on my good foot and bought this from Oddbins Beer Shop, Blackheath. Brown pour with an off-white head. Aromas of fresh tobacco, chocolate, raisin, caramel and toffee apple. No funky aromas unfortunately. I think any beer with a James Brown tag should be a challenging geuze, plenty of funk in there, HA!! This is also the ’soul’ beer I’ve had with the James Brown moniker...alright, alright that’s enough of the puns! Flavas (can’t help myself!) of toffee, dark fruits, caramel and sultana. Bitter malt finish. I feel good after that.

330ml bottle. Clear chestnut colour with small to average, frothy to creamy, half-way lasting, minimally lacing, beige head. Sweet-ish, nuttily and grainy, malty aroma, a touch of nougat. Taste is dry, nuttily malty, hints of hazelnut and pecan, grassy hoppy interludes and overtones with cautious fruity hints of apple and apple paring, some watery passages as well. Slightly inhomogeneous and wavering, but quite nice overall.
