Keg tap at the Express Tavern, Brentford. Mid- to dark brown, very translucent, some cream-coloured head and lots of lacing. Floral grassy hop overtakes the malt in the aroma. There’s also an odd whiff of earth or maybe soy. Bittersweet taste, certainly acceptable but nondescript. Turns more bitter over the course of the sip. Long back-of-the-throat bitter finish. OK but not a beer to get excited about.

Bright clear deep amber beer, decent pale tan head. Palate is airy, semi dry and has reasonable fine carbonation. Thin tangy malts, trace of toffee. Tangy dried fruits. Modest floral bitterness in to mild marmalade. Light dry finish. Inoffensive but a little ho hum.

33cl bottle from Beer52.com. A clear chestnut pour with a thin beige head; slightly musty carmael malt aroma; smooth caramel taste, with a satisfying bitterness, and some chocolate notes to finish. Rather good.

(Cask at Euston Tap, Euston, London, 27 Nov 2015) Dark brown colour with frothy, beige head. Malty, roasted nose with notes of dark bread, dark fruit, chocolate and orange peel. Malty, roasted taste with dark bread, chocolate, roasted grain, caramel and a gentle citric bitterness in the finish. Medium body, with a touch of sweetness. Tasty and well balanced. Quite nice.
