Originally brewed to mark the Queen's Coronation in 1953, this prize winning golden barley wine proved so popular that it has been brewed ever since. It is comparable in strength to the beer produced by Tudor brewers during the reign of Elizabeth I. Regular drinkers simply asked for a 'Lizzie'.

Poured from 275mL bottle (8.1% abv - fiulijnator cellar - vintage 2008). Hazy orangey brown with no head. Dark fruity malts, too old, no carbonation, but it's better than some of the local barley wines...

275ml @ Ryan's shared with Alex and Farees. Vintage 2008. Appearance: hazy dark copper with a weak bubbly beige head. Aroma: dark fruits, moderately sweet. Taste: along the same lines, almost flat. Overall: pretty good for 15 years old one.

Bottle from Harvey's Brewery shop in Lewes. Originally bought for the Queen's jubilee, but ended up being too busy that weekend to drink. Now drinking it in much sadder circumstances to remember the life of that amazing lady. Deep copper-amber with a beige head and just a hint of fizz. Boozy red wine aroma, but the alcohol is well hidden on tasting. Bittersweet with lots of straw and berries up front. Marmalade and dusty wood come through. It's decent, but not as good as I hoped, and definitely not worthy of Queen Elizabeth II. Rest in peace, Your Majesty.

Bottle at home from Grumpy Goat, 24th January 2020. Pours clear and copper in colour. Aroma is fruity, light caramel. Taste is rich, sweet, light vinous, caramel, light dark fruit, quite light and easy to drink, some Sherry, wood and a sweet sticky finish. Very nice old fashioned Barley Wine

Bottle from Harveys Brewery Shop. Pours a coppery/dark amber colour very slightly hazy with a thin off white head. Very gentle light carbonation. Nice looking beer. Aroma of faint caramel, toffee, apple, orange jam and tea leaves. Taste is very smooth, a little tangy with a sticky chewy mouthfeel. Oily texture. Full bodied. Very malty with notes of caramel, toffee, orange jam, marmalade, apples, cherries, tea leaves, some faint vinous and floral notes. An earthy bitterness clings to the palate that combined with the other notes leaves a nice lingering aftertaste. Very well balanced. A beer to sip savour and enjoy. Good.
