Friek is an evolution, an imaginative amalgamation invented by our brewers. Multiple kriek Lambic style ales are fermented with wild yeast and tart cherries and then moved into oak barrels to age and sour taking on the cherry flavors. As the beer matures, framboises (raspberries) from Schroyer Family Farms in Fort Collins are handpicked and readied for the beer. The fresh raspberries are added immediately prior to the final blending. The sweet and tart flavors mingle on the tongue with a sparkling dry finish.

A can from a local Carry Out store in Cork. Brnja's Stag Party. Hazy ruby red, small firm off-white to pinkish head. Aroma is cherry at first, raspberry, soft funky notes, hinta of candy. Soft tannic notes emerge, also cocoa, cinnamon and blackcurrant. Medium body, moderate carbonation. Flavour is malt, honey and raspberry at first, turning to toast, cocoa and blackcurrant in the finish. Moderate tartness. Puckering. Some cherry candy sweetness lingers in the back. Quite complex with a few compromises here and there.

Aromas are what you'd expect from the label on the can: lambic cherry and raspberry backed up with hints of oak. Flavors are similar to nose, medium tartness and fairly dry. Good body and carbonation. Almost seems like there's some salt in there. Decent for this type of beer which is not really my cup of tea. I prefer more balanced.

Tap at Odell, Five Points, Denver, on way to airport, 9th May 24. Pours a reddish brown. Aromas of berries, funk, tart fruits. Taste is sharp, berries, funk, barrel. Lovely and one of the best beers of my Denver trip.

Bottle. Pinkish/reddish pour with a small white head that soon dissipates to a fine ring. The aroma is big and bold with fresh cherries and raspberries. The taste is dominated by moderately sour/tart raspberries, a smattering of other mixed red fruits and a trace of vanilla. The palate is full and oily. Finishes long and dry. Overall: Decent as ever. Top shelf

Nice cherry vibe here. Nice easy drinking flander's kriek. Pours ruby red with good head, decent pink lacing. Lime and some good malt complex here. Tap at Odell's Denver.

Fairly clear deep ruby and pinkish tinted body with a brighter copper glow and a very thin, just off-white head that stays on top of the beer for just about thirty seconds, then fades to just about nothing. Aroma of oak, cedar, woods, dirt, pitted fruit, raisins and then a ton of pure, fresh cherries, all with a great tartness and a lot of pungency, these cherries sit up nicely in the nose for sure with a lot of drying oak barrel scents noticeable - this one is nice in the nose. Light to Medium-bodied; Very strong, drying and aromatic tart cherries are all noticeable here with a nice level of acidity, tartness, dry qualities and especially sweetness - this shows a lot of crisp, dry and defined malt notes, but the cherries, complexity and sweetness make this sublime and very good for the style. Aftertaste shows the deep cherries, much more tart than sweet, along with a crisp and dry oaky malt flavour that gives off a slight yeastie and bready finish at the end. Overall, a very nice and enjoyable beer with a bunch of great tart, fresh cherry acidity, but the balance from the malt and sweetness makes this definitive. A nice cherry based lambic, but made right here in the states makes this one a very nice option. I sampled this twelve ounce, sealed bottle, purchased from BeerTopia in Omaha, Nebraska on 05-February-2018 for US$7,99, bottled on 01/2017, sampled at my house here in Washington on 11-March-2021.
