Bottle split at Bruce’s pad, big thanks to Josh, 09/12/13. Light black with a thin tan covering that clears to the edge. Nose is dark fruit tang, woody notes, earthy cocoa. Taste comprises earthy cocoa, dark toffee fudge, muscavado sugars, sticky toffee pudding, light whisky notes. Full bodied, fine carbonation, sweet finale. Decent enough impy, but lacks a little depth - should have followed that 5 year advice I guess but things must be rated !!!

Bottle shared at Bruce’s in London - big thanks to Josh. Pours clear black-briwn with a frothy beige head. Fairly mild aroma, some milk chocolate. Medium sweet flavor with bready dark malts, hints of coffee. Full bodied with fine to average carbonation. Pretty simple finish, impressively simple for the ABV. Some dark bread, cocoa. Nothing wrong here but just not much going on.

Black colour, dissipating beige head. Aroma of caramel, potato, soy sauce and oats. Flavour of roasted malts, cacao, coffee, light whisky notes. Finish ash, sweet malts and whisky. There’s two things that amaze me about this beer. First, I would never ever have guessed it is 12% ABV. If I had to guess, I’d say somewhere in the range of 8.5%, tops. It’s amazingly drinkable. Secondly I don’t get a lot of Lagavulin (which happens to be my favourite whisky) or even Islay whisky in general. While I think this might be preferable for the majority of beer lovers -who might dig peat less than I do-, I personally would have liked this beer to give more of a peated Lagavulin punch. Regardless, it’s a nice beer!
